At Cadwell, fastest laps were in 1:45s.

I think, pretty good going in car that weighs 1050kgs without me in it and ¼ tank of petrol.

I thought the extra power would have made a fair bit of difference, mind you if the slicks have gone a bit hard they probably have less grip than 4 races old A048s.

As we know, power is not everything. The new circuit has a lot of slow speed corners (I used 2nd gear in 5 corners), so Caterham with lower weight should have an advantages. I would say that you actually have better power to weight ratio in any case. In comparison, on the old circuit power mattered a lot more and with my best time of about 1:22 I was about 1sec away from Super Grads lap record. Caterham lap records

4 races – that is only about 120 miles. Would be very interesting to see what is possible to do on new tyres, but new set of 15” slicks is nearly £800 Sad

In any case – congratulations to you on your race progress, very well done in running in the leading pack in such a competitive series!

We should get together for a track day at some point Cheers

In the process of fitting it all now (have to work out where and how to mount the canisters).
Not sure when Ill be out next will start a thread in the Meets section once I know.

As for the old suspension, the front coilovers are my old ones with external canisters added (when I originally ordered them we put the provision to upgrade them in the future if needs be). The rear Bilsteins are actually on loan from my friend and will be returned to him.
This was one of the reasons for upgrade I needed to buy some new rear dampers anyway. Really like the racing Bilsteins, but ideally they need some adjustability. So we put them on the dyno at BAD, and then John designed new valving and adjusters to work in the required range.

A bit more info on the front setup:
- Eibach springs 250-550lb tender progressive and 650lb mains
- The strut bodies are shortened (compare to normal length) to get the piston in the mid-stroke position when the car is at the ride height
- ARB brackets relocated to return the ARB to the normal position with the car been lower

Price: I did it in stages, so worked out a bit more, but to do it from scratch you are looking in the regions of 2k. Not unreasonable considering that you get exactly what you want – designed for the car and your requirements Wink

Just finished fitting the fronts and took the car out for a drive along some country lanes. Have not played with adjusters properly – just set them midway. F*ck me it handles! The 1-ways were awesome and everyone who’s been in the car will agree. But now it is up on another level. Flat out on bumpy country lanes – just gliding along Cool Rides bumps better than my BMW LOL

Great price considering what you've got there!

Will have a chat with you in the near future about the tender progressive springs as that might be the answer to my Volvo ride quality problems. Its having different springs today (longer 400s) so hope that will sort it out. I've been thinking for some time that smaller progressives with a stronger main spring might be the way forward, but bit looked into it.

Is that a 2.5" spring? I ask as I'm currently having clearance issues with my GAZ units, the spring collar and the sidewall of the tyre are touching unless I wind them right up the body. (8" slicks and 17" wheels) I'm already running a 12mm spacer on ET20 rims so I can't bring the wheels out much more.

I remember my ASTs having a similar problem with the 15" wheels, although the spring collar just took .2mm out of the michelin writing on the sidewall.

Yeah, this is a little more serious than that LOL I*'m sure I'll have to go bigger again on the spacers as when the car is at the correct ride height the collar will be touching the rim, good job it's got 80mm studs fitted Wink

Stop being a tart and run smaller tyresRazz
Or add more power, that'll sort it out eventually.

Big grin All the sparks coming from the arches will make it look like I have neons! I can only get cheap slicks in 17", and as I've got 16 wheels now they are staying LOL

That puts the front end of the car up in the air though. I could buy shorter springs but I like the longer ones as they are more progressive, plus I wanted to use helper springs so the full threaded length will pretty much be in use. I'm just going to have to run more track width Ninja

Yours on 2.5" springs Jim?

Modified the spring pans on a few to fit 2.25's before but it does mean less travel for the same rate...

Yeah 2.5", less travel? I don't think I'll do anything drastic to the shocks just yet. I'll get some shorter springs for now, and come up with a solution if necessary when I upgrade the shocks later on. If I go for a 6" spring the collar should be well away from the tyre. Do I need to get a different poundage spring if it's shorter or does it still work out the same?
