If I was you pal I would stick with the NA route. I think it is the best way to tune. The superchargers are ok in principal but to be honest they lack in torque, and I still (personally) do not agree with the way they are set up. At lest going along with bodies and cams you can get a great noise, good USEABLE power from low down (ie not good performance post 50 mph like the charger). My two pence mate. If I was to do any work with my Rallye I would go N/A and not waste my money on a charger. ________________________________________ Previous china gti6 and Rallye owner. Now a proud Astor Gti 6 owner. dont think i have ever heard anyone say a bad word about the s/c conversion until now. I have been in a few and they do seem quickish but no where near scooby/evo quick. The high boost is another ball game, it is awesomely quick. but i have often thought it is too much for a 306. saying that though i have not heard of any failing and rich has taken care of all the bits that fail because of all that power, ie bushes. i am pretty sure the gearbox is a weak area with high boost but that can be sorted by shot peaning the gears. In all you are looking at about 10 k for a fully sorted high boost which i think you would do well to get any where near the low boost for a fully sorted n/a engine. The low boost is a compromise on throwing 5-6 k on a moderately sorted n/a engine. the low boost s/c is also reliable power too, dont think you would get that with a half baked n/a engine. I can see the argument though as i had a 220hp n/a engine in mine but to be honest it was a pain in the asse, the s/c conversion was in its infancy though at that stage so i did my own thing and bought a ready made engine, but on reflection i wish i had the s/c conversion. i would probably still have had it if i had. so the choice is 250hp with not much fuss or hassle on alow boost 210 hp with a 4-5 k engine rebuild ( that is how much it is going to cost if you just mess around with cams and valves and exhaust and pay someone to do it ) 8-9k for 250 hp for a fully sorted bottom end sorted head and remapping ( probably struggle to get that too unless you change the crank) or a pretty reliable 360hp for 8-9 k on a tyre shredding high boost conversion another grand if you get the gearbox shot peaned too. think my prices are about right, most are from memory i am sure i will be shot down if they are wrong ________________________________________ puglessPhase 1 GTI 6 1996-1997 Subaru Impreza GB270 2007-2008 rare spiderman comics same day international courier |

As one of the first "6" owners on here to go down the supercharged route I thought I'd give my biased opinion lol,The low boost charger conversion for me is pound for pound the cheapest way to big power, it's easier to do than other conversions, you have 250 bhp power after the conversion and makes cams and throttle bodies seem a bit of faffing about Imo (although bodies sound nice), also low boost will give you a 0-60 time of around 5.5 secs (think Bmw 335i quick) and that is quick and feels quick, you would have to spend a lot more going down other tuning options to achieve the same power, Only downside of low boost is the itch to go high boost lol, although this can be thought of as an advantage as to go high boost you don't have to change any of your kit (maybe intercooler) and you can simply buy or build another engine, drop it in with quaiffe etc and you've got 400bhp, took me a month to go from low boost to high boost once I had bought all the bits, In short Imo the supercharger conversion is the sensible way to go if you want big power and is easily upgradeable once you want even more power, the car can feel pretty standard if driven slowly and is still reasonably economical if driven sensibly, just don't add up all the receipts once you have gone high boost though and remember you never get back what you have paid out on modified cars if you come to sell, although its still less than the depreciation on nearly new cars once they roll off the forecourt. ________________________________________ Team Supercharged Gti-6™ |
