My dash was working when the car went in ...My car starts fine ...but Noticed since my car has had the welded in cage ...when we drove it back ...I've lost most if not all of my dash clocks apart from got my temp gauge ...

Can't find any melted cables

But don't have ....
No speedo
No rev counter
No fuel gauge
No miles .

Tried...
Removed large fuses under bonnet & refitted .

(Note I have a DTA 40 & bodies) ...could the welder of blown something ?....car works fine apart from clocks

Tried Shunt fuse removal
Tried clock connections yellow & blue
Tried diff clocks
Welder said he unplugged DTA ?...it was unplugged when I picked it up ...

Any Ideas welcomed running out of Ideas 😡

Try fuse 25 i think right hand side of steering colum main interiour fuse board it is one of the fuses down there had the same myself not long back get haynes manual or just go through sorry cant remember if 25 is correct and will depend on phase also

I have done welding on my 6 I just disconnected the battery both terminals and earthed as close to my weld as possible not had any problems with any electrics after.
However I have heard that you should disconnect the ecu and battery as there is a possibility to damage the ecu. Maybe ecu or circuity in the clocks got fried.

as long as ecu and battery disconected , clock circuit should not have fried , check inner fuses , and connections on rear of fuse box , and any earth ,

Thanks guys pulled out & tested every fuse in the box with continuity tester ...
Tried Shunt fuse & removed

I really don't know if the battery or ECU was removed to be honest ?...but I'm wondering could the ECU be damaged ?
Would that cause clock Probs ?
The car starts & runs fine ...everything else on cars 100% fine ...
We've tried everything we know ?

Also tried new clocks ...

Two of us have just finished trying to sort it 5hrs ...no luck ...I'm thinking ECU ???

Tried Earths

Does a DTA ECU run the dash ?

cant see the fuel gauge been run threw ecu , tacho yes but rest?

Tried a replacement dual relay?

Had a guy buy one off me after his rev counter stopped working and viola Wizard

when he changed it over the Rev counter worked again

check the main dash to front end loom plugs are fully seated.

Sorry Mei ...do you mean through bulk head one ?.........or the just the plugs to the looms brown & red big Connectors ?

Can the DTA stop the dash from working ?

the ecu has minimal connections to the dash, so unlikely, yes through the bulkhead.

Sandy just said 100% not DTA as only Rev counter control through that ..
He said try the alternator ...go careful of disconnect all the wires & start it & see if anything appears on the dash ..
He said If reg has died, it could pull down the dash power ?

I believe though that the alternator charge light does come on & go off on the dash when revved !
Will willingly try it tonight though ...

It's got to either be a earth or cable power supply I think ?

Big thank for ideas guys

PS Mei haven't tried the Bulkhead connection yet ...have taken it off 3-5 times when dash was going in & out though ...ill check under the Driver side wiper in scuttle later also ...good shout ...just in case wiper lever has caught something?

linkage wont have caught it but its easy for the plug not to do a decent connection, the two corner bolts need to be done up then the plug pushing home firmly and the middle bolt nipping up.

There are 2 plugs under the glovebox, make sure these are plugged together tight.
Most of my dash didnt work after a matrix change and it was these 2 causing it.

Not the best pic but its all i could find at short notice borrowed from the matrix removal thread.

I had a similar problem with another car a few weeks ago, the dash wasn't working at all apart from coolant temp. Fuse 25 is the one that controls this (I think) and so that would be my first port of call. Check the connections for the fuse are actually getting 12v if the fuse is ok.

My problem was slightly different as something was blowing this fuse repeatedly and the dash wasn't working. Turned out the wiring loom had been butchered so one of the 3 wires that the fuse powered was shorting somewhere, blowing the fuse. I chopped it off, fuse stopped blowing and the dash started working again.

Does the LCD light up but nothing display?

Does anyone have a loom diagram for a T Reg phase 2.5 /6 that may come in handy on Saturday when we have another bash at solving the clock problems ....

Sadly not ...everything was working when car dropped off to Welder ...when I picked it up only Temp gauge ?

Do you have clock loom =.yellow & blue plug loom & electric window loom please ?

Had a little bit of a result late last night ......made a school boy error & stupidly checked the fuses inside with them in place with a continuatity tester ...ove course they beeped ok ...but you shouldn't do that as they will show ok LOL

Anyway fuse 25 =5amp was blown & after replacing I seem to have most of my dash back apart from my Rev counter & fuel gauge ?
Can't check the speedo ...until Sat ...

Even got LED mileage & trip now !

Sadly somehow my mileage clocks read 000007 & my trip reads 0007 also ....so lost my Mileage ?????

Also the oil temp on the bottom right goes up & self checks when ignition goes on to check ...but sadly even after engine running for 30mins doesn't give reading...

The Rev counter needle is also gone upto 1000 & is stuck & vibrating even with engine stopped ?

I'm hoping it's now the Clocks Blown ????
I'll try the spare set tonight ...fingers crossed Thumbs up

It's my fault for fitting a second hand on/ off with I didn't realise was faulty & turned on permanently......basically he was welding with battery connected !!!!

I've asked him again & hes 100% told me he disconnected the DTA ...as it was when I picked it up ....hoping he did ...oops

YES......but how & why has it gone to that .....must be blown circuits surly ?
