last time for the (first) time some 130-135 oil temps at Combe were appearing ?I was Not 100% happy with that on track last time ....seeing as I have a 16 row cooler with good air flow to it with my oil being Millers nano 10w-40w .... my Mocal thermostat sandwich plate ...i think it's not opening enough at 80 degrees ...can't be messing with it I'm just changing it . Changed it over to a fully open Mocal Sandwhich plate now...I then haven't got to worry about if it's opening 100% or not... I'll just have to warm the engine up a little more before using it on track . Day666 has attached the following image: |

Have you thought of changing to a 10w 50 or 10w 60? ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! My Budget track engine build thread! Now appearing at a Trackday near you!! |

Thicker oil will just make it run even hotter. ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. Sorry il reword that, it's not thicker per se, basically it will break down at a higher temperature. Mine on track runs cooler with a 10w 50 in it.... The 10w 40 was running hotter and the pressure was visably lower after2-3 laps. Plenty of people run a 10w50 or 60 in track cars?Oh balls, I know what I'm trying to say but not wording it very well, il try again in the morning when I'm not so tired! ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! The idea is to run a thicker oil to keep you at the same viscosity as the thinner oil at 'normal' temperatures, but a thicker oil in and of itself will increase temperatures, especially in the bearing shells.Ideally you stick to the thinner oil and control the temperature, if you can't do that, you shift to thicker oil to compensate. 50-60w is definately thicker than the 40w he's running though And he's running decent oil so high temp breakdown shouldn't be an issue, certainly not with a 40w, perhaps with 5w-20 or similar with low HTHS figures but not that Millers. ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. Thank you Jeffers & thank you Phillip for your great knowledge ...I'm always wary of changing oils as it seems what you gain one place you seem to lose in another ?I'm worried the Valve has somehow gone faulty & not opening fully & may be partially stuck or something ? My reasons which I didn't make clear MY FAULT / SORRY ....I haven't removed & tested it yet but ...... When I came in on 4-5 occasions at Combe after some really heavy 15 or so laps my Oil cooler was only just warm to touch & it used to get very hot ...it was a warm day ...my oil temperature has only ever maxed 120-125 ... Last time without anything changed inc oil 130-135 & nearly hit close to 140 ... First of all I thought faulty reading but no I believe it's the Thermostat in the Mocal playing up ... I'll try this fully open curcuit one & see if it makes a difference ? I really will only be doing Action days & track days now 90% of the time so warming the oil up shouldn't be a issue ....ill just have to let it tick over on start up a little longer |

Let us know how much longer it takes to warm up the oil mate. I'm also tempted to remove my mocal thermostatic sandwich plate when my 16 row cooler replaces my 13 row one. But I use my car as the daily so need it most likely.________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

I put it down to it being November and freezing cold but thinking about it now cully's fix has probably sorted the issue.... ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber!
