Anyway I have wanted to build one of these for quite a while now and this came up cheap and turned out to be a really clean one too so got me savings out and spent the whole £250 on a 52 plate MK1 Berlingo van 1.9d, totally standard, looks s**t and drives even worse. I have been using the van to work and back for the last month. By its slow as s**t! Broke up for Christmas last Wednesday and took it off the road. Pretty much stared Boxing Day, stripped all I could off the van. Engine & box, shafts, wishbones, wiring, exhaust, fuel tank, brakes, suspension, throttle and clutch cable, dash. Pretty much left me at a shell like the rallye ha.
Sunday I fitted lift reverse cable, clutch cable and throttle cable then the rallye engine and box went in, baker BM mounts, baker group A fork bush, rallye shafts and wishbones as the shafts are slightly longer than the standard Berlingo ones as well as the ball joints being slightly wider too. 60mm springs and Gti shocks, gti6 bakes with ds2500 pads and brembo discs, Clio 172 phase 1 air box, rallye radiator, Ecu, oil catch tank, battery inside the van. That was pretty much it for Sunday.
Monday I tackled interior wiring, pulled all the old stuff out and fitted the gti6 dash loom and clocks, had to cut a home in the bulkhead for the chassis loom and dash loom to join. Refitted the dash and plugged most bits back in. Now at this point the van turns over off the key that I see as a good sign, we're getting somewhere.
Tuesday, rewired all the lights, tried to figure out interior heaters but got me baffled abit? Wired door speakers and bolted on front end.
Day off today as I'm still waiting on a fuel pump to come. Only got pump to fit in the tank, tank to refit and exhaust to fit and extend then weld some rear exhaust mounts on then that should pretty much be it ready to test drive. Just leaves window wipers, heaters to sort and figure out why my horn isn't working? Oh and I have no rear fogs.
Why am I doing this? Why not? It's different, no one will be expecting it, handy to have a van, better to have a fast van and it's something I have wanted to do for a little while now.
