Been looking forward to doing a project thread for ages! I'll try and update as much as I can.
Decided to buy myself another 306, mainly because I want something to work on during the winter months. I've had three 306's in the past - 2 gti's and a d-turbo. I spent the last 6 months or so looking for a half decent one. Decided to buy a 2000 reg Bianca 6 with 80K on the clock. I've had a Nile one and Black one before so was looking forward to getting something different.
Took a bit of a risk buying the car as the service history was very limited, but after having a good look around it and giving it a test drive it seemed like a good enough car for me. I'm planning to completely strip it down anyway, so wasn't wanting to be too fussy. It's completely standard except for the cd player and air filter. The previous owner informed me that he put a replacement engine in the car last year (all backed up with receipts). He also informed me that when he bought the car that it had been sitting in a lock-up for 2 years and wasn't in great shape. He seemed to have spent a lot of money on it and he's made a tidy job of the engine. Bodywork was in decent shape apart from a few stone chips, minor scratches, and dodgy repair work. Interior is immaculate, I finally have a 306 without a ripped seat
I was only insured for one day so it was just a case of going to pick the car up and bringing it home. It drove absolutely great on the way back. As soon as I got it home I parked it up and started stripping it. Having been inspired by other project threads (Matt Evans Astor project mainly), my plan is to basically refurbish the car back to its former glory. It'll probably take a while but I've got a lot of time on my hands now having recently started uni. First things I'm doing are rust treatment, under-seal then refurb and lower axle. Brakes, discs, alloys, heat shields and all other parts will either be getting replaced or refurbed. Got all the nuts, bolts, washers and brackets soaking in Deox C just now.
Exhaust, axle, fuel tank and all other parts were taken off so I could have a good look at the metalwork underneath and see if there was going to be much rust to deal with. One of the previous owners had made a right mess under-sealing the car - spraying it straight on top of the rust. First job was getting the under-seal off. The only thing that would take it off was petrol on a rag. 4 hours later and feeling a bit dizzy with the fumes, I started to chip away at the rust with a chisel and grinder. A few days on and I've managed to get a good look underneath - so much RUST. It's actually in pretty bad condition unfortunately. Luckily I think I've caught it before it's too late, any worse and I'd be re-shelling it. Arches have been treated with Deox Gel which is making a good job. I'll be spending the next few weeks sanding, wire brushing, chiseling, grinding and probably swearing. Revealing a few holes in the sills...
