Well there certainly is for reading a number plate, and an officer can make you do a roadside sight test if they so desire, so I would imagine that there must have been some kind of specification laid out in the original designs of the signs Dan.

Interesting question though...Hmm

yes, there was

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2002/3113/regulation/11/made

see 290mb pdf on the left if you really care (i have it here)

everyone download it and let's carry on the debate until we are blue in the faces or until 0wayne gets sectioned, whichever comes first

You have to be able to read a numberplate 20 meters away as part of the driving test, the numberplate numbers are not thin but thicker numbers, unlike the 60 sign.

An old lady got stabbed in the face, at bingo, last night. The guy who did it go away with it because the knife wasn't the correct size.

It's hardly the same thing is it? Roll eyes

The fact is things have to comply, for example I know people have been prosecuted for having no vehicle insurance simply because even though they took out the insurance, the certificate has the registration number wrong by one digit. Therefore, the vehicle is *technically* not insured, despite the owner paying out for insurance in the first place and trying to do the correct thing. Ok, it's still the owner's responsibility to check their documents when they receive them for errors, and I can see why the Police still deem it as their fault.

Same thing applies with these cameras. Yes

The law enforcement have them made, and it's their responsibility to ensure they all above board and correct. If law enforcement are going to be picky about a typo error on a motor insurance certificate then why shouldn't the motorist be picky about gantry font sizes if both cases are breaking the law? Dunno

a typo on the insurance certificate is put down to an administration error, then corrected, and your insurance policy reissued and everything is ok. i've had policy documents sent to me by Adrian Flux with the last digits wrong on my car. never got pulled, but i just phoned them and they fixed it

    common sense prevailed Unsure
