Local club comp safari's start from about £40, even national ones are only just over £100, and you can share drivers unlike most sports. Get you mates to club together and buy a couple of jimny's between you.

Sorted, properly organised, cheap as chips, tyres will last 2-3 years, MSA sanctioned/rules so everyone's running to well established rules, marshalls, timekeeping, etc. Plus you don't risk your pride and joy.
Sorted Wink Smile

They'll say 'no semi-slicks' - but given they can't decide on a definition of semi-slick without just going, 'They're too expensive for me bruv', hmmm.

Sounds like they're trying to find the cheapest, nastiest supplier for remoulds they can as a control tyre. That'll be fun. Just what I'd want to run on my pride and joy....
And given all the carcasses will be different on a cheap and simple re-tread, how the hell can that be considered a control tyre.

Most of the existing sprint series are only around the £100 mark, I'd spend the extra and let these guys have a few seasons finding their feet first.

What? I havent really used the forum much. I dont like the idea of using remoulds...

It also did annoy me that it says road legal, but Ive been told I cant use my 888's.

Also, the other series I looked at required a race license, fireproof overalls etc. Also as my car is boosted 2 litrre, it put me in the most open class and would be running against 2.3 strokered Evo's running 600bhp... hmmm

You'll need a licence for nearly anything running to MSA regs, it's part of the insurance cover.

As for the boosted issue. More boost will solve that.

To be honest whilst the rules might seem OTT to some, if I was caning a car around a track competitively, especially if it was modified, I'd want a roll cage and fireproof overalls for starters. I'd also quite like it if people could turn my car off from outside if I was on fire.

Just sayin'. But then I'm one of those weird people who doesn't like the idea of burning to death inside a tin can whilst spectators look on and laugh at my poor selection of stickers.

Don't need fireproofs for cross-country stuff, advised, but not strictly necessary.....but then they do make sure you have an extinguisher, cut off switch, sealed bulkheads, time how long it takes you to get out of car, etc...

If you're definately doing this sprint you're going to have to put some serious work in with them to get them to close all these loopholes/conflicts/issues they have.

If it's just mates wanting some fun, club together and hire curborough for the day and don't worry about it LOL

@Phil -
Going about it properly and doing a proper series is the best way to go without a doubt. I thought I would just give this a try this year with a mix of trackdays.

@Dan -
I believe it is very much the same thing, but as its new and numbers are short, guess thats what bumps the price up. I will have a look about to see if I can find any of the events that you are talking about.

@Owain -
Bloody comedian Laugh my ass off

Yes its really not the best designed series. And the safety aspects you stated I adhere to, just dont have fireproof overalls yet.

    Had a bit of time over the weekend and thought would try and get some stuff done. After spending ten minutes on trying to continue the beam strip, I got fed up trying to figure out how to remove the torsion bars and decided to have another go at spraying.

    Went and bought some paint and set up a high tech spray booth..

    After a coat of primer, finish looks good. Wish the actual paint was this easy.

    Then I gave them a lick of paint and lacquer. All seemed ok, but when I picked them up to move them I have left fingerprints in it, and the paint moved (despite the rest of the item being dry)

    Not sure what I have done here, but no doubt from my bad practice of not knowing what Im doing and probably didnt leave it long enough to dry.

    Other than that though, think they turned out ok. Well, good enough for me considering they are going under the car where people dont see them, just thought would give them a tidy up rather than fitting rusty parts along with nice new shiny parts.

    I never want to see another pair of them in my life. I have a selection of hammerite smooth brush on so gave my brackets a bloody good wire wheeling and found the hammerite just wouldn't give a good finish in the gold I had. So I bought some hammerite red oxide and went over them in that thinking the hammerite would love going on top of that. So I brushed on two coats of black and there are still some areas where the brush kept moving paint and it's not quite covered as well as I'd like. I suspect a third coat would finish them, but I was hoping a quick couple would be more than enough LOL I've learnt that hammerite loves being painted on rust but hates clean metal.

    For my tube ends I think I will just use a rattle can. I chose to brush paint on so it would in theory be thicker seeing as the area is liable to stones being thrown at it. Need to look at some alternatives other than powdercoat.

    haha, do one!

    I got fed up of looking on ebay and messaging people for offcuts in the sizes I need. These came up for sale and after a bit of haggling didnt seem to bad. I am lazy, and getting them already done saved me some time and effort Thumbs up

    Magic Yes

    The tube contains the black vinyl border for the rears. So I can add that on and hopefully cover the rivets and keep it looking OEM Smile

    Only chance you have of this working is by using very small recessed rivets, you might be better off putting the rivets over the vinly but using black anodised ones, I reckon the vinyl will look s**t if you put over over the rivets.

    Few questions for guys in the know..

    Do I use electrical tape over the connectors for the cut off switch? Will be located in the dash, and has lots of wires behind it.

    If so, how to do it correctly?

    Also, can I earth the battery to these bolts here? Any issue with that?
