Why do they sit so far off the disc? Can you not machine the bracket down so they fit better?

The pads are only contacting the outer 3/4 of the disc

Yeah I know, were like that from when I got them (second hand). Will PM the previous owner to see what he knows about it all.

Common for these sorts of brake kits to compromise disc contact to fit a caliper. Not fitted mine yet though so cant comment lol.

Right, so I've bought some 3mm spacers for the front wheels to hopefully clear the brakes when using cyclones. Will I get away with using standard bolts as its onlt 3mm, or will I need longer ones?

If I do need longer bolts, does anyone know where to get them from?

Thanks,
Chris

Should be fine. Sure I ran 5mm on standard wheel bolts on 1 of my old cars with 16s over brembos

Another small update:

Wheel spacers turned up the other day so need to do a test fit for cyclones and measure bolts etc to see if I will get away with 3mm spacers and standard bolts.

I removed the 3 coolant sensors off the thermostat to get replacements for all of them. While they are out, I taped up the holes on the 'stat housing, but does this now mean I will have air in the system and need to do a quick bleed up afterwards? (appreciate this may be a very silly question??)

Also bought a carbon bonnet badge that Gnrlee did, and after a lick of paint fitted it on. I realise now I shouldnt of masked off all the inside, as that needs doing too Doh

And finally I bought a Leon Cupra R splitter off a mate. Brand new in box, but still unsure if I want to use it. I have seen it on a few 306's and quite like it tbh, but still a bit unsure.

Few little bits done..

Got all 3 temp sensors for the thermostat housing.

Went to fit them, got two sorted but the blue one only seems to have 1 pin, rather than 2.

I checked this with CAS as my original sensor has 2 pins, and the connector has 2 pins. They double checked and cross referenced it etc, and it should have 1 pin now. Something to do with a revision? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Will fit it and see how I get on I guess Dunno

Then started on some rust removal. I have decided at some point, I will get the engine out so I can get it all done properly, and cut out bits if they are f**ked etc, but for the time being, just some simple stuff to make it look a bit more presentable, and to stop the rust getting worse.

I have started on the passenger side inner wing.

Here is how it was when I started

After a quick going over with a wire brush etc to remove the majority I was left with this.

I then set the Deox-C gel to do its magic. Used some small bags to apply to stop me covering myself in it, and then left it on to try and stop it drying out too quickly.

Came back to this, it does work well, and saves a lot of effort.

Will finish that off, then give it a coat of red oxide primer, and a quick lick of paint before FCS.

Chris,

I replaced the coolant sensor on mine at Christmas as it was reading as though it was on fire at 70mph Cool

The one supplied came with 1 pin but after sending it back and specifying two pins, one duly arrived, thats as much as I can tell you LOL

Few more bits and bobs done...

Firstly, finished off my inner wing tidy up (for now)

Bit more presentable, and hopefully stop the rust getting much worse.

Then cleaned up the earth points and connectors.

Managed to get a Leon Cupra R splitter for cheap off a mate, so decided I would fit that. I fancied a bit of a change, but now fitted I'm not too sure. Some angles I like it, some I dont.

Bit of bending and cutting needed, but all easy stuff and got it done in about 10 minutes.

I'll let the pics do the talking..

And fitted...

Just bung the original sender back in, if it aint broke dont fix it...

you wont have a high temp warning light with a single pin unit and it should not cross reference.

It is broke though. The sensor I had in over reads (well, it seems to do what it wants to be honest) Laugh

The one that was in it, (2 pin) will start showing that the car is overheating. For example, last week I started the car from cold, walked off for a minute, came back and the temp on gauge in car showed about 100 degrees. This is not the case, all the hoses and rad etc were still stone cold (as they should be after a minute of running from cold).

The temp doesnt stay like that though, gauge shows that the temp drops again (with no fan assistance to do this), then it will rise again. Seems to do what it wants, so there is no way of me knowing how hot the water actually is.
