Car is still SORN'd and needing things doing/fixing. Lost the love for it a bit at the minute, does anyone want to come round and help me sort it out so I can buy a taxdisc and fall in love again? Smile

The TD 1.2's with R888's were left at the top of the hill with Stan etc. I didnt fit them to the car as only did a couple of runs. The night before after a few drinks, I managed to put a hole in my foot messing around on a stanceboard Doh

This c**ting thing...

Should've cut the studs off on the top, p**s poor engineering that. Yes

Kittens dont take up any time really. My new air rilfle and facinastion for shooting on the other hand seems to take up loads of my time recently!

As I had some time today and it wasnt raining, I decided to try and get a few bits done on the car. There is a trackday at Rockingham in March a few friends are going to, so I want to get it working again.

My first issue is to sort out my faulty battery issues after ditching the lightweight one for the time being. Had my mate get my battery tested and its dead, so borrowed the battery from the diesel daily (also a bit of a s**t battery) connected it up and attempted to start the car. Turned the key, dash lit up and fuel pump primed, looking good. It tried to start but didnt quite fire so I went and put the jump pack on charge.

In the mean time while that was charging, I set about getting a few bits done.

Started by fitting my my carbon mirror blanks.

Then drilled more holes in the floor to mount my mini fire extinguisher. I have done this in the drivers footwell for easy access, and it doesnt actually get in the way.

Then I started making the wiring extension to wire in my washer bag that I am putting in the car. Any weight moved away from the front axle is good in my opinion and gives me more space for routing air ducting to the brakes (an idea I am thinking of doing)

I then routed that through a hole next to the main loom connector into the car, underneath the wiper motor.

    Loosely connected for a test

By this time the jump pack was charged so I connected the battery up again and used the jump pack for a bit extra.

Turn the key and this is all I get Sad

Very minimal lights on the dash, unable to turn lights on etc, no fuel pump priming, f**ks sake!! Angry

Whats happened there? Have I upset a wire or something with the main loom connector? Any help or ideas will be great Smile

I will have another look tomorrow as its dark now.

Earth is the same thats been used for a while, all is good there. The thing that confused me is everything was working fine (technically) before I routed that cable.

So my main thoughts would be in the area of the loom connector and the wires behind the dash, as that could be the only thing that has changed? Dodgey french electrics that can break a car by moving a wire Laugh

Unles the wiring is shorting out somewhere? May have a break in in the rubber around the battery wire. You tried jump leads on it off another car?

Right then, found the issue with the car.. well kind of...

As expected, it was with the main loom connector that comes through the bulkhead. I havent exactly fixed it, but I found the car not working, moved the black box a bit (has a bit of play as case is broken) and then it works.

Problem with this is, its working now (although battery not good enough to actually start it) but when I put the wiper motor back in, it upsets it, and maybe moves the connector slightly and then broken car again Sad ffs!

So this video shows the problem. Try to turn lights on etc, nothing. No fuel pump priming, but there is some electric as comes up with stuff on the dash and the fans come on (due to the switch being disconnected)

And after a wiggle on the connector etc, it now works.

Any ideas? I dont want to have to take that box apart to check for loose wires, as it bolts through from the inside, and dont want to have to take the dash off to access it.

Best way I find is if you hit it, tape it up then hit it again to make sure the tape has stuck well Thumbs up

After checking out that, I tidied up the wiring from the wing to the bulhead connector. Some of the insulation tape was missing so re did all that. Noticed the loom was rubbing slightly on the hole to the wheel arch. Checked for breaks and couldnt seen anything, but taped over again to be sure, and also secured the rubber bung in and taped up to make sure it doesnt come out again.

Also taped up the bulkhead connector to try and keep it happy, and also to try and stop any water or moitsure getting in there.

After getting annoyed with electrics, I moved onto something else to get annoyed about.

I removed my front bumper so I could try and find somewhere to mount the oil cooler. f**king no idea where to put it.

I tried it here, but bumper wont fit back on, and would have to cut a lot of the grille etc out to make it fit, I dont really want to do that.

I then decided it would be best to try and make it fit in the same place, but on opposite side. I could remove my rusty tow eye (and fit my fabric TRS tow strap) and remove the horn and some other random brackets to make space on passenger side. Seems the better idea, as then I dont have to worry about routing the oil lines passed the aix belt etc.

Still no idea on how/where to mount it, so any ideas welcome Smile

    Horn relocated and brakets removed

Much more room on that side now, but probably still not enough for the oil cooler!

    Its needed Yes

Heard of people still getting pretty warm oil with 16 row coolers. As mine is supercharged and abused on track, thought would be best to go for a 19 row cooler.

Pain in the arse trying to fit though! As you can see, already managed to damage it when attempting to trial fit Laugh my ass off

I run a 16row on my 205 gti6, and that is more than enough, even in a 205 bay which gets very warm with the 6 engine.

I was the same, but get it on track on a hot day and oil temp flies up!

Heard that people still get it fairly warm with a 16 row, so thought I would get a 19 as a mate did me a very good deal on it Yes

As its a larger cooler, it will probably have very little direct airflow so should be all good, just need a place to mount it. I have a 13 row cooler in the shed but was told by many that its not going to be enough, and I was told 16 row minimum.

If 16 is the minimum and 19 is the next one up, made sense to me!

Will check the mocal "13 row" cooler tonight when I get home.

Managed to get a bit more work done on the car at the weekend.

Carried on with the wire brush and the deox-c to clean up the tow eye area.

Forgot to get a finished picture, but then moved on to give it a lick of paint.

I then realised that the tow strap wouldnt fit well as I hadnt cut away enough material from the tow eye Doh

    Angle grinder out again.

    And done.

Not the neatest, but no one will see it, and just wanted to stop the rust getting worse really.

Then a few with the strap fitted (yes I know its upside down, but fitted better that way)

Then moved onto the battery situation. Like I said before, I decided to buy a new battery tray and new battery to see if it was any better than the lightweight one.

Few pictures after fitting. (none during, but its standard stuff of drilling holes etc)

Quick test and fires up into life easily Big grin

I then carefully mounted the wiper motor back in and seems to be holding the loom connector in place. For the time being though, I have left the tools needed to remove scuttle panel and wiper motor in the glove box in case it decides to break again going over a bump or something Laugh my ass off

I then finished off my washer bag wiring after confirming it worked ok (this test was to check the motor powers on etc when moving the wiper stalk). It worked fine so I spent the time extending the wiring and fitting into rear of car. I then filled it with washer fluid and gave it a go. It fills the lines, but only a dribble out of the washer jet Sad
I assume there is a kink somewhere, so will have to check that out.

So the car is nearly ready to go back on its wheels (even though I stole two of them after hitting a pothole in the daily and f**king two tyres Angry)

My plan is to get the wheels sorted and back on, then tax it and start using it again. It will then go off the road again for a week while my coilover is removed and sent away to have the damping adjuster fixed.

When the coilover is refitted, I will be fitting my new brakes which turned up this weekend, thanks alexcrosse Thumbs up

Very happy with the setup I have got, fingers crossed it will brake as well as it looks!

KAD 6pot brake calipers, Ferodo DS1.11 pads and drilled and grooved discs. I will let the pictures do the talking..

    Big grin
