I need new front pads & disks so was wondering whether to just buy standard replacements or go for some uprated aftermarket replacements.

I will only be using them for normal road use.

Is it worth getting some Ferrodo 2500 pads and brembo disks or not bother and just get standard?

How much do pug charge for front pads & disks (just the parts)?

After a scary moment of having no brakes (major brake fade) approaching a roundabout roughly 6 months ago - and being knackered and needing replacing for my MOT at the beginning of February this year - I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with DS2500.

I have previously tried performance upgrades on my last car (Saxo VTR) in the form of Red Dot discs and pads which turned out to be absolute crapDry although I have to say the standard calipers are also crap on these cars.

So new standard Brembo discs and D2500 pads went on and ATE super blue brake fluid went in for the MOT and I have to say that these pads really are the muts nuts.

The feel a little wooden from cold and you get a little squeal at low speeds but they just seem to get better and better the hotter they get. Ive not made them fade yet and to be honest I will probably need to do a track day to make that happen.

I went for the FCP565H pads which some say are Alfa Romeo fitment (dunno what car) but I did notice that they are also listed for the Lancia Delta Integrale in the latest Demon Tweeks Motorsport catalogue. These are the pads that sweep the whole disc and dont leave an un-swept groove above and below the pad like regular pads do. In time these un-swept areas go all rusty and nasty which isnt happening with these pads.... and its making the discs look much larger behing the wheels ive noticed also. They fitted straight in my calipers no problems Thumbs up

i have 1144's on mine at the mo as i took my brembos off, they really are Amazing. Yes

ive managed to cook them once on track but thats it.

would recommend.

What's the life like on uprated pads?

Do they last as long as standard?

If so looks like the way to go.

well ive been using mine for ages , did brands and still got loads left .

depends on how hard you are on them i suppoes, but on the road the should last a long time, just be sure to bed them in correctly

Ok cool.

So Ferrodo or Mintex pads.

What about disks? Something fairly cheap.

Do I need to bother with special brake fluid etc?

No you dont need to bother with special fluid, but ATE S-blue is amazing for the price - GSF stock it.

DS2500 are the better pad but 1144 are cheaper and still very good.

Yes they are the right discs!

May as well replace the rears at

Good plan.

Did you get the pads from that site as well?

What are the correct part numbers for the front pads, and rear pads and rear disks? As there are about 20 types of each and I have no idea which is the right one LOL

I've used both and my vote goes to the DS2500's

Had them fitted when i charged the Vagina and with new fluid and discs they were great!had a couple of middle pedal moments to keep the points off the license LOL

Also make sure that your callipers are working fine with no damage to the seals Wink

i was impressed with them, first time round i sold as i needed the money , and this time i want a larger disc setup.

A set of braided front brake lines is a worthwhile upgrade while you are changing the fluid, and not too pricey. The give a more direct braking action (less brake line swell)

Standard discs seem fine, but the DS2500's and Mintex pads are recommended. I went for the Black Diamond ones at about

I use Goodridge hoses, Castrol SRF, DS2500 pads (FCP565H) and EBC Ultimax Slotted Rotors (slots look very cool through cyclones - most EBC rotors are poor but the ultimax ones are quality). Most new shiney things after a few months become forgotten but the above combination keeps giving smiles per miles Cool. It is about as good as You can get with standard brakes. From cold 256+Kgf per front disc ... according to last MOT.

To prevent break squeal file off the front and rear edges (not the inner or out edges) of the brake pads (a 45 degree 2mm Chamfer) and apply a good Copper Grease to the back of the pads where the piston touches. CS-90 (Copper Anti-seize Grease with Graphite - effective to 1100 degrees)is better than anything I have used before by miles.

Bed the pads and discs in gently. Once the faces have physically matted (c. 100-200 miles) build up temperature in the brakes to working temp and then work the brakes harder and harder until they fade (stop working - which is difficult with DS2500's), then continue driving for a few miles without applying the brakes to let them cool.

Alternately Brembo discs can be delivered from forum member 'matsoki' for a good price.

The above discs are fine, most discs make very little difference to the braking performance.

If your pads have worn using warped discs they could be uneven and lead to new discs warping under breaking pressure.

I'm currently on genuine standard OE vented discs and pads all round. I may look into Mintex when it's time to change the pads again but TBH the OE spec is more than enough for road use.

Unless you plan on using the car for track days or supercharging it, there is probably no point in uprating them.

Brembo vented discs are fairly cheap on GSF or buypartsby, etc. They are as close to the OE discs you are going to get without going to Peugeot. TBH my 6 had Brembo discs on when I got it, they needed changing so got mine direct from Peugeot. I couldn't really see any difference, if any. The Pug pads are very good as standard and feel sharp.

Pug are very expensive though, I only went there as I am friendly with the parts manager, and even with 20% off they were a hell of a lot more than the Brembos, but I had the cash and wanted to give them a go.
