Just looked at the discs on bypartsby which look like a bargin & noticed they do mintex pads. No one else who is looking at the discs has mentioned them? Are they crap?________________________________________ daveyboy wrote:306 GTi, the best kept secret in performance motoring |

But again, I think I may have been unlucky as other people have used them and found them to be fine. I'm thinking of going for the M1155's for my Wilwoods if I decide to keep the car. Although that's looking unlikely Yeah maybe. Hopefully they will turn up tomorrow. That doesn't sound good about the 1144s Hope mine don't do that. What happened for you to notice at first? Brake failure? I thought about 1155s but don't really need them as I don't go on track, and apparently they squeel. Might try Ferrodo DS2500s next time and see if they are any good. ________________________________________ Sold my GTI-6 now riding in a Scooby--------------------------------- James |

No I had a really annoying squeak that increased in frequency with the speed of the car. The first set was replaced by Mintex under warrenty. The second set I just ditched TBH. DS2500 are good and don't lift of the backing plates like the M1144's did but I thought they were a little over rated TBH. I'm not sure what I was expecting from them tho The standard Mintex pads from buypartsby are fairly decent BTW. I used them on the Xsara and were more than good enough for the road ________________________________________ My old man wrote me a letter from prison once. Oh that's ok then Yeah warranty replacement sounds like a good idea. Saw the standard mintex but decided to go for these What's the recommended way to bed them in when they are first fitted? As I have never had to "run in" brand new uprated pads before. Is it a case of cook them until they fail and that's them sorted ________________________________________ Sold my GTI-6 now riding in a Scooby--------------------------------- James |

But if you just try and take it easy for a few 100 miles you'd be ok Especially with brand new discs. ________________________________________ My old man wrote me a letter from prison once. There was a problem 2 years ago with the backing plate to pad glue stuff with the mintex 1144s. Was apparently fixed, but you'll know pretty quickly if its not - they start to squeal all the time off the brakes. If they start to do that get them changed straight away.________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

I'm sure there's an FAQ on bedding in new pads. Is there not a leaflet in with the pads telling you how to do it?________________________________________ My old man wrote me a letter from prison once. , I wrote one somewhere!Bed them in gently for a few miles to get the disc and pad mating properly, then as Steve said - build the heat up through the pad and the disc with some successive 30-40mph moderate stops, then do a few 70mph stops to bring the temperature right up and burn the resins off the pads and get a good thick transfer layer down on the disc. If done properly the pads will last longer and bite better, so worth doing. ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. Yeah just found a FAQ ClickyIt says careful driving for 150 miles when fitting new discs as well. Then after that, brake at 80% effort from 60mph to 10mph, 8 times. Sounds ok ________________________________________ Sold my GTI-6 now riding in a Scooby--------------------------------- James |
