Just looked at the discs on bypartsby which look like a bargin & noticed they do mintex pads. No one else who is looking at the discs has mentioned them? Are they crap?

If your pads have worn using warped discs they could be uneven and lead to new discs warping under breaking pressure.

Annoying, but fair point, cheers! Not much point riskin it really. will have a read of the best disc/pad combo then and sort the lot when i get my next months pay cheque

Ok so I ended up ordering Buypartsby discs and Mintex 1144 pads.

I won't be buying from buypartsby again, and definitely don't recommend them. Bunch of c*nts. I pay

And on the pad front, I will never buy M1144's again after having two sets with the friction material lifting off the backing plate . But again, I think I may have been unlucky as other people have used them and found them to be fine.

I'm thinking of going for the M1155's for my Wilwoods if I decide to keep the car. Although that's looking unlikelyNinja

Yeah maybe. Hopefully they will turn up tomorrow.

That doesn't sound good about the 1144s Crazy

Hope mine don't do that. What happened for you to notice at first? Brake failure? LOL

I thought about 1155s but don't really need them as I don't go on track, and apparently they squeel.

Might try Ferrodo DS2500s next time and see if they are any good.

Laugh my ass off No I had a really annoying squeak that increased in frequency with the speed of the car. The first set was replaced by Mintex under warrenty. The second set I just ditched TBH.

DS2500 are good and don't lift of the backing plates like the M1144's did but I thought they were a little over rated TBH. I'm not sure what I was expecting from them thoLaugh my ass off

The standard Mintex pads from buypartsby are fairly decent BTW. I used them on the Xsara and were more than good enough for the roadSmile

Oh that's ok then LOL

Yeah warranty replacement sounds like a good idea.

Saw the standard mintex but decided to go for these Ninja

What's the recommended way to bed them in when they are first fitted? As I have never had to "run in" brand new uprated pads before.

Is it a case of cook them until they fail and that's them sorted LOL

Don't quote me but IIRC you have to do 4 or 5 moderate stops form 30mph then 2 or 3 from 70mph and then allow them to cool completely. But if you just try and take it easy for a few 100 miles you'd be okSmile Especially with brand new discs.

Cool I'll try that Thumbs up

Although don't know whether I will trust them braking hard from 70 just after they have been fitted after what you said about it coming off the backing LOL

There was a problem 2 years ago with the backing plate to pad glue stuff with the mintex 1144s. Was apparently fixed, but you'll know pretty quickly if its not - they start to squeal all the time off the brakes. If they start to do that get them changed straight away.

I'm sure there's an FAQ on bedding in new pads. Is there not a leaflet in with the pads telling you how to do it?

LOL, I wrote one somewhere!

Bed them in gently for a few miles to get the disc and pad mating properly, then as Steve said - build the heat up through the pad and the disc with some successive 30-40mph moderate stops, then do a few 70mph stops to bring the temperature right up and burn the resins off the pads and get a good thick transfer layer down on the disc.

If done properly the pads will last longer and bite better, so worth doing.

Yeah just found a FAQ Clicky

It says careful driving for 150 miles when fitting new discs as well.

Then after that, brake at 80% effort from 60mph to 10mph, 8 times.

Sounds ok Smile
