Well I'm pleased to say that first impressions of the new block are good, bores seem perfect (no lips and honing marks are still visible) minimal carbon buildup suggesting a healty lump. The oil that remained in the block was clean and free from water etc. Hopefully I've bagged a good one.Only slight pain is that one of the main bearing shells has picked up a nasty gouge or two, so I'll have to get a new set to be safe. This may well have happened when I rotated the crank by hand checking things over visually before I got started. At least I'll know that it's together properly before I start. However, now I have the lump at this stage, and I think it may be a good one, I'm half tempted to leave the build-up until I can afford to do it properly using the forged internals that were intended to go in the block thats currently in the car. That way I only have to do this job once. Only thing is that means I will probably be without the car for at least 3-6 months, depending on how many private jobs I can squeeze in between now and then to save the extra money I'll need. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. My thoughts exactly, I just hate bieng carless these days. Plus so many cars come off the road for 'a few months' and don't go back on for years! I just don't want it to become another one of those. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I sell new and used welding equipment in the Hampshire area. Makes more sense to do it that way I know, there is very little summer left now anyway (Not that I mind giving the car a run in the wet) and it would save me some money if I SORN the car for the time she is off the road. I wonder if I remove the lump and tell that to my insurance company, they will let me just cover the car for theft etc. I mean it's not like I can crash into anyone if I have to push the car to move it is it? ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. im sure you can cover you car just for theft, but not sure if you can downgrade cover to it. may not be worth it if its only for a month or two________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |

speak to your insurers, Direct Line said they would refund me at the emd of the policy for any time the car was off the road, though I didn't go any further into the process.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Would be a shame to put it back together without building it to a decent spec internally. Does save pulling it apart again.________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

rallyeash wrote: hows this coming along? VERY slowly I can only do bits and pieces as money allows. I bought my pistons and rods from Rich W this weekend, so next step is to have the block machined up ready to accept them. But as thats going to set me back a couple of hundred quid it's having to wait a while. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. pugheaven wrote: Are you going down the 2.1 bottom end route? How much did you pay for rods and pistons? Thanks No, I'm just going to hone the bores and leave it standard size (86.0mm) as I cant' be doing with sorting out pistons to match a stroked crank etc. If you want rods/pistons speak to Rich W. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. Due to some help from my rear beam mount customers and a few other odd-jobs I have going through at the moment I now have the cash to make a start on the rebuild. So my block will soon be off to Owlesbury Crankshaft for checking/machining along with my crank, crank-pulley, flywheel, clutch and cover plate for dynamic balancing. Also I plan to go to Essex and pick up some tasty cams too... ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. Yeah, the cams were development cams mde by Piper, I don't have the exact spec but they are 297 degree and 12.9mm max lift. They made 230 hp in an engine on twin 45 carbs built for national hotrod racing. Hopefully I can achieve the same/more if I let the guy have my head to work on. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies.
