That's disappointing Tom as I know the effort you went to breaking that thing down and then re-crimping it. I suppose in hindsight, it's perhaps not a part that benefits from being taken apart. besides, the second hand one you've redone actually looks the best! I plugged mine up, blasted it (to get into the crimped areas) then gave it two coats of epoxy primer and two coats of satin black. It came up looking brand new and hopefully will last longer than the original finish.

I've bought quite a few things from the museum but so far had a positive experience. I just don't know how they work out their prices though. Some parts seem very cheap while others are are on a Spoox level of pricing!

I think you're right and I've really got to stop messing with things that are fine as they are!

Anyway, replacement booster is in and initial signs are good.

Here's a few pics of fitting the replacement cam cover seals. I've only done the rear one in the interests of "stop messing with things that are fine as they are!" as the front isn't leaking.

Dodgy Peugeot Museum seal with RTV repair.

Old seal removed with blade.

Cleaned-up with brush in drill.

Lugs trimmed from new seal.

Seal applied to cam cover.

Hoping for no more oil leaks!

Are the lugs on the new seal not there to hold it in place? Just curious?

Where did you get the new seals from? These are not the PTFE ones, right? And do you use some adhesive to keep them in place while fitting the cam covers?

On the cam cover itself, where the bolts come through is taller than the surrounding metal. This is so there's room for the seal (original or replacement) to compress slightly but not so much that the cam cover crushes the oil spray bars.

You can keep the lugs on the replacement seal as long as you remove metal from the cam cover where the bolts come through. It's about 3mm from memory.

They're available from Vehicle Decals UK They're not PTFE ones and there's some really sticky adhesive on them.

Thanks! Will look into them as well as I would like to change the cam covers for more decent ones.

Hello, I've just been notified by an old friend that this was my car, somewhat 15 years ago just as I was rummaging through the loft and found the Service & Maintenance records book, Manual etc.... in the original Peugeot Pamphlet. If you'd like to reach me through my website, stormengineering.uk (preferably call), We can arrange for you to collect. I am not at all far away I believe.

Well, that's an awesome thing to have and keep with the car, original dealer book pack!

I now know where the car was sold from.

The service record is nice to have and backs up the old MOT certificates I got with the car.

User manual can be had online but, there's a few variations and it's great to have what was originally supplied with the car.

Alex/205gti is a really cool guy and is doing some interesting stuff with motorsport in europe. He showed me some development stuff he's doing for a team that races Alfa Mito's (my daily driver!) and previous things he's worked on for the likes of Lamborghini and Lotus.

When he had my Rallye, he'd taken it to Italy a few times when he was working for a company there so it's seen a few miles across the continent. On one trip, some rapid miles were covered across France that equated to an average speed that seemed impossible to the authorities Shut up Whistle

The trip to collect the book pack wasn't uneventful unfortunately. The ring terminal on one of the wires to the alternator had broken off due to corrosion so my battery wasn't charging. I managed to diagnose the problem whilst the AA were on their way so it was justa case of quickly crimping on a replacement terminal and a jump from a booster pack.

Winter improvements have begun.

The Monroe dampers weren't behaving as well as I'd liked with the shorter & stiffer Xsara VTS springs so I've gone for some Bilstein B8's.

In one of those "whilst I'm there I may as well..." moments I decided to tart-up the steering knuckles and fit some new bearings.

Here's all the bits sitting on top of the OE boot tray I picked up recently.

Initial plan, for the knuckles, was to have them blasted and then zinc plated.

Got the blasting bit completed. Blasted v's non-blasted.

Decided against the zinc in the end due to escalating costs, time and the fact it's not the best thing to do to cast stuff really.

Went for some Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80...

... followed by some black Raptor paint I had left over.

Bearing races had been left in to protect the knuckle surface whilst the blasting was being done and so I could reassemble the bearing to make pressing the race out easier. Plan was to have a local garage change the bearings but, a bench-top 10T press popped up on marketplace so I'm self sufficient in the pressing stuff department now.

Can't see it in the pic but, I bought a press cup/sleeve/drift set to save fannying about with sockets and random scrap bits of metal.

Paint on the B8's is crap and wafer thin. One recieved some chips in transit.

Found this touch-up in Halfords which is pretty much the exact colour.

Ordered some new hubs as the old one's were grotty and I couldn't be bothered cleaning them up.

Nice! Did the same: if everything is disassembled, well, then replace everything Smile Powder coated hubs, new bearings, powder coated brakes, all of it...

I am surprised your B8s have such minimal paint. The ones I received have a super thick layer of paint. Anyway, I covered them in ML coating (thick wax like substance).

Do you have a link to the press cups? I am thinking about buying a press as well, but I cannot find any cups that would supprt the wheel hubs...

before you fit the new drive flanges to check them vs the old ones, have heard that some out there don't quite match and the CV joints may not sufficiently clamp the wheel bearing.

not a huge problem for an engineer to rectify on a lathe but still annoying.

Thanks. Read that recently on a FB post maybe? I've bought Meyle brand which are apparently ok but still got the old one's kicking about to check against Thumbs up

Yep, they're terrible. Remember seeing a post on Hovis16's project where he replaced a rusty set of B8's; rusty presumably due to the lack of paint!
I've bought a load of Bilt Hamber wax coatings as I need to do the cavities and underside of my daily driver. Some of the clear wax will be going on the B8's!

I bought a VEVOR wheel bearing press kit from Amazon. The cup sizes in the kit worked perfectly for the 306 bearings Thumbs up

Went and picked up some hubs and pinch bolts from Retro, Race and Rally as they're local and stock these bits (and plenty of other useful bits, mostly 205 but alot is the same part as for the 306).

Knuckle/hub assemblies aren't fitted yet but the B8's are hung.

Cardboard in the background as they were having a coating of Bilt Hamber clear wax.

Had to get the local Napa place to order boots + bumpers from Germany as finding anything decent in the UK was proving difficult. Took less than a week. Old one's were knackered and a crap shape.

Decided to cut down the bumpers as there wasn't alot of shaft on show with them at full length.

Also checked the Xsara VTS springs against the original Rallye springs to make sure the shortened B8's were actually the right thing. Nothing to worry about.

Found that the exhaust centre section had started to leak.

So had that welded.

Whilst I was there I had a couple of fuel rails adapted. The AN fittings have been tig'd instead of brazed this time around. These will be zinc plated, along with some other bits, then put up for sale.

Not sure if I'd mentioned it, but all that F Shut up ing work I did to replace the pre-tensioner wiring was worth S Shut up it as the sodding airbag light is on. It's all coming out to be replaced with a timer for the dash light which means the steering wheel airbag can F Shut up ck off in favour of

An OMP WRC wheel and boss Love

Good advice, but I'm not doing the bump stops again No

Is it the pinch bolts you're refering to? I was getting other parts from RRR anyway so it made sense to get the bolts from them. These bolts are correct grade, shoulder and thread length Thumbs up

Got the B8's, knuckles/hubs hung and a coat of wax on them.

Just waiting for the bits from the platers now. The ABS wiring brackets & hub nuts are amongst the bits being plated.
