Hi All,

Thought I would start a thread on this since I recently bought my second 6. Had my first blaze 6 about 5 years ago, loved it however needed to sell it as I began working on London. My brother, mate and cousin are really into their track days so I went along recently and immediately felt the need to get involved....of course I would buy a 6 to do track days in - perfect.

Found a phase 1 that had been stripped out with some other bits a pieces done to it:

So it has a strut brace, induction kit, fog lights removed for air flow, brembo discs and DS2500 pads

Lovely light windows Thumbs up Racing seat and harness

A red bumper Thumbs down New exhaust sitting in the car ready to be fitted

So post those pictures being taken I have given the outside a good clean and need to move onto the inside next, there is a lot of moss growing everywhere!

ISSUES
- Lower rad pipe leak: I think that on my drive home the water level got pretty low and I didn't think to stop and top it up. Since that drive the waterpump sounds pretty noisy so I think I may have starved it of water, just a theory. Link to video below:

https://youtu.be/A7MVitM3sxk

- Cambelt: Due to the above I thought it would be a good idea to get the cambelt changed anyway, the previous owner did not know when it was last done and to be on the safe side I've bought everything needed and hopefully getting it done soon

- Cold start: Bear in mind I've started this car in total about 10 times, it seems to have developed a cold start issue. I have been doing the usual searching and everyone is saying HG Shock to be fair the car is pretty old, it wouldn't surprise me that much if its perishing. I need to check all of the earthing wires, clean some sensors etc before I come to that conclusion however not looking forward to paying out for cambelt and head gasket...changed the plugs and they looked the right colour:

- Top mount: Surprise surprise this needs doing. I've had a look at it and the mount looks fine, the housing only has a small crack in it however the bolt holding the mount in place is not welded in place. My cousin is a fabricator and works for Chris Tullett Exhausts so he is going to give me a hand fixing this.

- Should these be connected: So having a little clean up and I noticed these:

If anyone could let me know if this is normal? That would be great.

WISHLIST

Providing I get the car running nicely and the engine is sound I will start to invest into making it more of an actual track car. List includes (not in any order):

- Bilstein B6/B8s all round
- 406 Brembos with Tarox discs (man they are expensive)
- Roll cage
- Second seat
- Solid rear beam mounts
- Tart it up inside with some paint

You're not going to see anything crazy here where I am building my own wishbones like I have seen on other threads, however I liked the idea of keeping a record of everything. Will this be 'budget'....I'm not sure that's even possible.

No its not supposed to be connected it's a universal loom for many 306 models so that plug is obsolete.

I have just put b6 all round on mone they have only covered 1000 miles from new and I am in the near future wanting to change for some GAZ because they are adjustable so let me know when you are looking to do suspension as I may be ready to change by then an sell you my b6's

Mini update - In a bid to try and see if I can solve the starting problems I have had a little clean up:

Cleaned earth terminals (headlight and from battery to chassis) - weirdly satisfying task Cool ...also reconnected the wires into terminals as they didn't look very well connected.

I can see the earth wrapped in foil on the gearbox but it doesn't look fun to get to, might do that another time.

Had dinner and about to pop down to take a look at the ICV. Found a How To Guide on cleaning it so will take a look! However searching through threads I do not think I have found anyone who has said, cleaning this our solved the problems.

Took the ICV out and cleaned it, looks ok to me?

Did spot this wire though going to one of the injectors, shouldn't be shorting I wouldn't have thought?

The battery is almost flat but I did give it one try and it started! But then stalled...I was surprised though as normally I have to blip the throttle, so could be a good sign...

ENGINE UPDATE:

Chris changed over a load of stuff for me so now I know the basics have been sorted:

  • Cambelt & waterpump
  • Thermostat
  • New lower rad hose to stop leak
  • Flushed engine and fully bled
  • New aux belt

  • According to Chris the old belt wasn't too loose which is a good thing. I am still getting slightly odd starting problems so my next attempt to fix it is with the green ecu coolant temp sensor. Big thanks to Colin as well who was kind enough to pick me up from the station when I had to come and pick it up a couple of days later.

    PARTS BOUGHT:

Damien managed to tempt me into buy the Oil Cooler off him 16 row Setrab oil cooler with Goodridge pipes & Mocal non thermostat housing. Sitting in a box ready to be fitted Thumbs up

Also secure a B12 kit which should be delivered soon. Not in the best condition however been told they are working nicely.

Looks like I may be doing a track day at Brands on 17th July, so need to be ready for then!Yes

    UPDATE

    - Engine mount done and chocked, feels great to be able to drive it properly! Feels proper solid now.

    - New Miltek exhaust fitted, the old one was fooked

    My cousin giving me hand...

    - Changined green ecu temp sensor

Old one looked like this, worth a change

Took it out for a drive and it bloody flies, I forgot how these feel shifting to the next gear, bloody brilliant!

    ISSUE

It's still struggling to start and it's cutting out when I hit a roundabout or traffic lights. Any thoughts? I have yet to have a search around the forum so will do this shortly

Track day confirmed for 12th July at Brands Thumbs up can't wait. Evening session

Few last bits to do before then....

    - Change CV boot that's split
    - While doing that will drain the gearbox oil and top up with fresh stuff
    - Discs are warped so have some Pagid ones on the way until I can afford to upgrade to big brakes
    - New battery has arrived (if you need one go on tanya.co.uk so cheap) hoping this will solve starting issues

Think it's slowly starting to look better and better.....very slowly

Just went to book the same evening at Brands but its the only day with a lower DB level. I doubt mine will be under 98/88 on flyby.
