Thinking about replacing my custom stainless exhaust with an original Peugeot system as its a little too droney for my liking now (guess I'm just getting old!).

Looking on service box there seems to be several part numbers listed for the 6:

1717 72 - intermediate pipe
E12856K - intermediate pipe

1726N - rear silencer
E12839S - rear silencer

Anybody know which bits I should be ordering? Also, is it best to buy the rubber mounts and clamps as well while I'm at it or are these just expensive versions of standard exhaust fitments?

E number are aftermarket alternative and yes get pug clamps

Interesting stuff chaps....so is the general feeling pug original equipment exhausts are crap then? Maybe I'll just stick with my stainless system. It might be a bit louder but at least it won't fall apart with rust

I'm getting stainless system made up locally for same cost as genuine pug one which won't rust Thumbs up

That's what I got a few years ago. It's a work of art watching them fabricate it from tube a sheet material. All that work and it still costs less than mild steel 'off the shelf' systems. My only regret was not getting the middle silencer which has made it a bit droney at higher speeds. That said, I can always get one welded in!

No pug oe exhaust should last about 6 to 8 years ish

That's what I thought. My rear box didn't. Had couple of small holes welded about a month ago now centre pipe has gone. Time for stainless Thumbs up

I went to collect my nice shinny new backbox and to my horror the 1726N I ordered didn't have the chrome tip!

Luckily the guy refunded me after talking to his manager, I could tell he didn't want to.

I've ordered the E12839S one now, see how that turns out. The E12839S is £25 more.

Dont think they come with crome anymore i have two and they both dont have having caps having said i got mine 2nd hand new but all the same not from pug

Dang - I forgot how expensive they are without trade discount (and even then it's not cheap!)

I was in a similar situation earlier in the year and opted for a Piper cat-back as the cost difference was negligible in the end. I had some doubts initially but now it has a couple of thousand miles under its belt it has settled in nicely. OK so it's not OE but at least it won't rot, plus it's still quiet when pottering around town, then sings when you give it the beans.

Do you have any pics of the exit?

I love the OEM shape of the exit, with the flat top and bottom oval.

I was proper gutted when I saw that s**tty end on that box.

- I believe that it's a 3.5 inch tip but I haven't measured.

I didn't want to lose the OE look originally but I've grown to like the look of it now.

If you have an old box with the Cromer piece I believe it's fairly easy to swap it over should be straight fit and a touch of weld

Pug 306 may have a spare i think (but not sure) that bosal and a couple of other makes have the same size piece

I'm having the same issue with mine, love the popping and bbbwwwhhhaaammm!!! on the short trips, but the long ones down motorways are just painful. I have no idea whats fitted to mine, any idea on how I would find out? Whats the best way of making an exhaust quieter?
