Invest in a trailer! No point having a well specced car that you can't push hard as you're worried you'll end up in the wall with no way of getting home. At our last race someone had a crash and it turned out they had driven the car there, such a silly idea.

I push very very hard & anyone who's been to Combe will tell you that ...crashing and breakdown it' not a worry as I could get someone local to come up & pick it up & we carry some tools & spares ..

No1 ...my car has only in the last year really come together Dan & a cheap Beaver tail would be my long turn plan ...

No2 ...why would I pay thousands for a trailer when I live 6miles from Combe & wasent going to any further tracks & that money went into the car rather than a trailer ?

No3... I've not got a car that's capable of towing a trailer ?....can't use works van & no towbar & not allowed to fit one ..

No4 ...I've build this car as a project to challenge myself through a bitter 5year battle with my ex of my two children was wth her 27years & spent thousands fighting her in court for the house I kept ...it's kept me sane even though it's stretched my patience at time .
(Yes) I've spent crazy money on a £1k car ....but Remember I didn't build it to race m8 & it somehow starting to feel like your saying it's stupid doing what I've done if I'm not going to either Race it or even travel to Asst tracks for track days & not trailer it ...or am I wrong ?????
At this moment in time I want everything fitted to it I can afford & I would rather stay at Combe fully this year & achieve that ...

No5....I work Sat nights on the railway as a second job to pay for all of this & im happy this year with staying at Combe & doing Presscott Dan ...you must get bored more easily than me or maybe your getting frustrated with your car somehow Whistle
Regards Damien

PS I don't Race (yet) .....I only have this car & our m8 Miles who's helped you out loads ...also Drives his car to Gurston Down ...now he's a proper old school hard core Racer Thumbs up

Thats half the fun sometimes! Laugh
In all seriousness though, i'd love a beavertail or trailer and tow car, but they are all pretty low down on my priorities list at the moment, mortgage and bills rape my income and the bit i have spare i like to waste on alcohol, social life and the track car. Doh Laugh

Im only lucky as in I don't drink or gamble & thank god my girlfriend of 24months moved in and bought 50% into my house, that enabled me to pay off ALL my debt and the several thousand I had put away which I was saving went into my car instead of having to use it to pay off my debt.
Now I have no credit cards and no debt, any money I spend is money that must be in my account:

This car has been my 3 year obsession, YES I've spent far too much for a track day car YES I should be going to more tracks but once the car is done, let's see what next year brings, no plans for this year as money has stopped play as it has with you, Steve. I don't waste money as some people do I tend to wait and buy what I want which in a kind of weird way feels better in the long run. But if we all sat down and thought about the money we've wasted on our cars I'd probably suffer from depression as well as going slightly mad at times. Just can't wait to see how this car goes this year and hopefully next year an engine, and then who knows? Maybe a beaver tail! Or maybe I just end up selling it. Nobody knows what's round the corner.

Oh I definitely get bored on trackdays. I used to really enjoy them but I can never get the same buzz any more.

Nothing wrong with car, it's faster than Carl's BTCC car Wink

The reason I said to invest in a trailer is so you an go further a field the Combe with less worries. I'm sure you'll push it hard at Combe as you know the track really well by now.

Racing is great but it is a s**t load more money. It costs me about £300 a month in fees, consumables, etc. going racing, that's not including car upgrades. Then you need all the extra stuff like a van for transporting all the tools, spare wheels, wet tyres, spare pads, spare discs. Then you'll need to go testing regularly at new circuits as you'll want to be competitive and know the circuit before racing there. Then, when you buy new tyres, you'll need to heat cycle them so you're not wasting track time at a race weekend bedding things in.

The thing is, when you're sat on the grid waiting for the lights to go out not knowing what is going to happen in the first corner, it's all worth it. To me there's nothing better than running side-by-side with someone wondering who is going to brake latest into the next corner, who is better. It's all about the competition for me, I'm there to win, nothing else.

I'm only 23. I don't own a house so I'm trying to go racing and save to buy. Money is tight but hey, gotta have a hobby right Big grin

We're very similar, we put our maximum time and effort in to our cars and what we want to do with them Smile

Good post this and good project, I don;t use a trailer as it's quicker for me to drive there but any further afield and it would get trailered, Mind when I was racing all round the county I hired one as it works out allot cheaper, No storage or maintenance issues either, You should try going to Knockhill, From me Oulton park is halfway.

John Cleland said something on TV the other night (Motorsport legends) about BTCC car's, most people could get in and drive one at 7/10's but only a few can take the next step to where the car feels nervous and twisty and go 10/10's

Demondriverdan you have turned into a full on race only SNOB LOL .

I remember when you were not so long ago asking me about Dunlop DZ03GS & bodies .....Whistle ....
Don't forget where you came from LOL .....but if track days don't float your boat anymore what can I say ?

I just couldn't afford £300 per month on racing plus damages & breakages Thumbs down
I done enough competitions in my life time ...weather it's BMX racing or in car Stereo championships LOL
PS got lots of nice big trophies to Thumbs up

I'll just keep to what I enjoy as I'm not hurting anyone YET .....& next year I can see how the money situation is & go from there Thumbs up

this is one of the reasons i am not renewing membership , you do what you want damien and as funds see fit mate , trackdays are not my cup of tea either but due to costs of stage rallying and not working for 18 months not able to do , as for racing circuits i feel like a goldfish , as get dizzy going round in circle over and over again , would rather do manx rally like ive done several times , but each to there own , ive most probably forgot more than certain people on here know , people take time to do write ups on projects on here , not to get negative response , as certain people on here with knowledge wich there are are a few could easly rip into certain cars , but we dont , keep up the good work damien

I think what I was saying came across the wrong way. I didn't mean to attack Damien at all, I have a lot of respect for what he's done and think his car is awesome.

It's my fault if it came across any other way, I apologise for that.

Thanks Guys Whistle

Anyway found a little gem in the garage today ...I got given it from a customer 12months ago but misplaced it & after a tidy up today I found it & it's a stronger & better fit than my 40amp Mitsubishi one ..

The bonus & most important thing about it ...is a one post/ single base support extra thick not two support post Alternator...
Meaning I don't have to cut one of the base lugs off

Have a look at the bottom of the picture only one really thick 8mm fixing post Thumbs up ....the other didn't fit so I cut off one of the lugs ....didn't look strong enough then Whistle

This fits perfect ....I believe Rallyash used one of these on his car in his project 205 thread over a year ago & that gave me the idea but never got to fitting it until today Thumbs up

As you can see ...it's A Densa made in Japan for Izuzu 40amp & still has a 15mm shaft so Swapped the pulley over ...Also it's off a wood chipper ...that's why black markers on it

I think mine is a 50A one (could be 40A though, can't remember off-hand) and it copes pretty well most of the time. It's not a fan of having the ePAS pump running, lights, heaters and wipers going, so it's a bit of a juggling act when its raining and dark Laugh
I usually just turn the ePAS off a few mins before i turn the car off to make sure i pump some juice back into the battery, as it's about 4 years old now and not as good as it once was.

Make sure you got for a dump before each run Thumbs up

Big place to save weight nobody touches is the rear beam, I was making a prototype up with the aim of raping Steve's credit cards again at one point and I was down 15kg over a stock one without even refining it.

Yeah, I think I recall Martin turning a few mm off the beam tube to save some weight, but I think he also went on to run titanium bars aswell, and a few other trick looking bits in the photos I saw.

I've been toying with the idea of having a go at knocking up a custom rear suspension setup, but wasn't sure where the roll centre is with a beam like these as I wanted to try and keep it in a similar spot on my setup.

Don't start trying to ravage my savings again phil, they're a bit delicate after my supercharging nightmares! Laugh
