Hey guys,

Forgive me the odd question, but I'm on my phone and haven't the ability (or the patience) to go trawling threads for info. Besides, threads and posts are good for the forum. Smile

Recently, I was offered a new job. If all goes well not only will this get me out of the minor s**t I'm in financially (few hundred overdrawn) it will also give me money to spare. Obviously a house and all that good stuff is high on the list, but for starters I'd like a well sorted motor.

Lots of time spent on autotrader/pistonheads/ebay.etc and I short listed a golf V gti, a golf IV R32, an astra VXR, Leon cupra R mk 1 etc..

But really I'd like a good nick low boost 6 Big grin

Don't know much about them so I thought I'd ask before I spend.

Here's some stuff I'm wondering:

1.) Realistically how much should I spend, going rate seems around £4000. Is this right?
2.) What can I expect performance wise? I don't mean figures, more actual feel. Will it be more fun than the VXR?
3.) Reliability, I'd rather not be under it every 5 minutes.
4.) Running costs, I'm not overly fussed, but what can I expect?

Any info would be great,

Mines for sale for £2100

Performance never rr'd but it was f**king quick eats 225, vxr, mate elise, s3 old shape

I used to do a just under a full tank on 300 miles sometimes driving like a prick

The power crazy pulls like a 6 does from 0-60 but this does it to 140, literally races the rev counter.

If you ever been to pugfest I was getting half way through 3rd on the first bend compared to top of 2nd in a 6, also you don't need to in the power like you have to be in a rallye/6 as it puts hard throughout the rev range

Yep fantastic power delivery and as sam said pulls hard all the way off the clock, be careful though as its very easy to hit 140+ without trying and i wouldnt like to try explaining that to the cops lol.

It was also more exciting than my rs250 is.

However in my opinion it also feels cheap and half assed in its design and fitting. Mine cut out quite badly and i wasnt warned of this, in fact the boss at lynx told me it would idle better after the conversion. It stalled everytime i stopped on the journey home, i rang Rich and he didnt seem to care, he had his money so wasnt his problem anymore. In the end i had to raise the idle by about 400rpm which helped abit, i also had to change my driving style to "catch it" everytime it looked like it would die.

Some parts are imported from america, Rich struggled to get the right ones for me. The recommended oil is very expensive.

Personally i think your better off getting a newer vxr or rs megane and mapping it but i do completely understand if you do get a low boost 6 as i still get times where i miss mine... Cos my god it was bloody good fun!

So true.i was also lead to believe the stalling issues where cured when he did the v2 maps? Mine ran high boost pipe work so did stall now and then, just have to remmber to blip it when going down the rev range

I also opened throttle up so it idled higher but helped it not cut out as much.

I also had high boost pipework. Were you told of this beforehand though? I wasnt and thats what annoyed me, and that Rich didnt seem to care.

If you are changing jobs for the better and getting out of a financial situation I'd seriously suggest thinking about chugging along in a cheap motor and saving the money towards a property. Then you can use disposable income to think about luxuries. If that grass isn't greener in 12 months you will at least have some money to move around rather than a car you can't shift - in bits or otherwise.

IMO of course.

    In the hope of getting shot I'd imagine. It's obviously not cheap enough as it hasn't been bought yet.

    There are more second hand kits knocking around than there is demand by the looks of it.

    the honest answer is modified cars and reliability very rarely mix. if you're planning on buying a car for everyday use. don't buy performance get yourself a nice diesel and save the penny's for you're house deposit mate Smile

    to be fair i was actually soo impressed with my low boost regards maintenance costs
    and running it when driving sensible was close or better than standard - might of just been me though Dunno

    the rip off the cars exhaust goes up a fair bit too, popping was quiet addictive

    high boost is a bit more expensive Sad

    The financial situation isn't especially dire, its just a few hundred pounds worth of overdraft that I've been going slightly deeper into since I've been in my current job.

    Buying a property is of course sensible, I do intend to do this at some point but I think it would be sensible to do so in a few years when I have more savings and possibly a serious girlfriend. After a few years of working this new job I should have enough saved to put down a considerable deposit. For the mean time I'm living with my dad paying into his mortgage, so I'm not really wasting money, its going on a good cause.

    If I was to buy a low boost it would be with the money I get from selling my current 6 and whatever savings I have after a period of around 6 months.

    But if there are some selling for £2000 then I would pretty much be able to buy that right now.

    The fact you're dipping into an overdraft suggests you don't have savings. Get yourself a decent pot built up

    At the moment mate there are a few kits you could buy for 2k no need to sell your car then buy a kit get it fitted grin from ear to ear. Big grin

    At them prices you'd be better of buying a standard one for 1k and buying a kit!
