only one dealer abroad had 2 in stock, and initially wanted 650euro each

it is the same dealer i'd bought a genuine 309gti driveshaft from, which turned out to be a tu driveshaft. so i was given a credit note.

after telling them they'll never sell the steering wheels for that price, and i'll be doing them a favour by taking one of them off there hands, i got the brand new and boxed steering wheel in exchange for the driveshaft.

so price wise, it worked out a little over 150euros

bargain!!!

since the paint was nice and dry on the steering wheel shroud, i decided it was time to get rid of this wheel

and fit the shroud and o/e wheel

fitted my replacement steering pump, so now no more juddering when turning the wheel Big grin

th front bumper was a bit worse for wear, and i decided to remove it as i also needed to feed a new length of hose for the headlight washers

underbumper removed

tomorrow i'll be taking the new bumper and mirror caps for fresh paint, and take the underbumper for powdercoating.

should also be taking delivery of some very special wheels, as a spare set Smug

Looking good! What's up with the new bumper though, looks like the left hand part of it is missing?

Still in the packaging mate. I can assure you it's complete.

Inserts are already in the bumper, just covered with tape

the problem with the interior plastics on the mi16, is that most of the dashboard is black. lesser models were either grey, blue or beige.

you will have read, and seen that i sprayed the steering wheel cowling in black. which came out better than i expected Big grin

so this meant there were a couple of other bits that need painting. before and after pics below.

another part i required was a gear linkage which was fastened the the front subframe, but the rubber ball had had it. so this meant it wasn't a snug fit in the main gearstick rod housing.

thanks to a friend of mine, one was sourced in belgium.

but as you can see, the small ball joint is in a different position on the new linkage, compared to the old

voila!

so now i can drive the car with a standard throw gear change, or quickshift Smug

currently how the car looks, with new rear lamps and the refurbed wheels. (no front bumper yet, so was poinless taking pic from front)

Just the axle to rebuild and new brakelines to fit. Not had chance to start that job, as been busy with people wanting rebuilt axles fitting to their cars, so needed the driveway free

IF I did decide to sell the car, ( and that's a big if), I'd be selling at a price I think is justified due to rareity, and cost of genuine parts that have been sourced from europe

not much of an update really.

i fitted the new gear linkage and moved the car. so at least now i know i have a good biting point on the new clutch, and i can select all gears Smile

picked up my freshly painted bumper and mirror caps

just want to clean up the tow eye and paint before refitting.

the thing with the 405 rear axle, is it uses m16 bolts for mounting the shock absorber.
when setting the ride height, the dummy shock needs to be about another 50mm longer aswell.
the problem i had, was that the dummy shock i use for 205/306/309 axles has m12 and m14, and didn't extend far enough Sad

so i took a few measurements. stripped an old 205 and a 405 shock, and with on old jack handle chopped down, some m10 nuts and some m10 threaded bar, a bit of weld, i finally ended up with these

exactly the route I took when I made my first one Andy, but I now have an original pug/citroen part and it has a much finer thread.

apologies in not updating for a while. have been back on shift, so today was the first time i've had to work on the mi Smile

after sorting new lamps for the rear, i decided new brighter bulbs were needed for the headlights. i'm a big fan of the 'nightbreaker plus' range by osram

these are the old bulbs.

finally made a start on getting the rear stripped down, by removing exhaust, spare wheel carrier, heatshield and plastic tray.
had a lot of fun trying to remove rusty screws and bolts. luckily my grinder came in handy

also decided to drop the fuel tank to make removing the axle easier. it also let me see if there was any major rust. thankfully there isn't

within a few days, there'll be less rusty bits

and more new shiny parts Thumbs up

nearly forgot Yes

also removed the old scabby braklines which run from the rear to the front

tomorrow after i get axle removed, i will fit the new brakelines.

will also get my spare wheel carrier shotblasted and powdercoated, along with some axle bits

axle off.

thought i would have a nightmare removing the front rubber mounts. but very pleased that i got them out easy Big grin

rear square mounts are bolted on, and seemed to be in good order aswell

took just over an hour to strip the axle down

torsion bars pulled out by hand Smug

this tells me that the car has had a very tame 82k miles, or the axle has been built at some point.

bearings in both arms in excellent condition

off to powdercoaters tomorrow with axle bits and other pieces from the rear of the 405.

also collecting a load of axle bits, and the 405 front underbumper. so hopefully i can get the front bumper back on the car.

meanwhile, i have a few things i need to soak in deox c.

once my camera has recharged, i will take the before and after pics

I found that Vicki's old G reg 190k track car came apart a doddle, but the van beam I got for my brother is stuck solid!

these bigger axles do seem to wear very well tbh.

Am half tempted to fit my larger partner torsion bars Hmm

But as I haven't stiffened the front up that much, I think I'll just use o/e 20mm bars

so, the problem i have with the 405 axle is that i can't get the trailing arms powdercoated, due to the fact that i don't want to remove the abs sensors.

if genuine ones were still available, they would cost over £250 each! Shock and even pattern part ones are over £120 each.

i have brand new disc protectors, but fitting them means the hub and caliper mounting bracket need to be removed. i have also removed the old bearings.

trailing arms stripped

i have decided to soak in deox c for a couple of days. just waiting delivery. then once all the rust is removed, i will hand paint with some satin black rustoleoum.

meanwhile, i had some deox c, so i have put some bolts and brackets to soak for now

that will be it for a few days, as i'm back in work tomorrow

I reckon a xsara picasso or a partner/berlingo abs sensor will work.
