well, I went for a measure up for a long life exhaust system. he offered a good price and can tailor the deafening qualities to my liking.

is it better to make as OEM with the centre section reducer or just keep the bore the same throughout?

They are a franchise I think, like powerflow, so can charge whatever they want as I understand itDunno

Ive used 2 shops before a number of times both have been £280 and I've had the down pipe with decat

If you don't mind waiting a few weeks I might have a cat-back long life system for sale? 3" inward rolled tip "mild sport" noise specification. Been on the car just over a year or ~10k.

No joins though so would be a b**ch to post.

Got a quote for a power flow system from 2 different locations

one wanted £300 fitted just for a sports cat!!!

the other wanted just over £300 for a complete system including a sports cat.

Powerflow is not proper stainless steel! Ive seen several of their exhausts rust big time. Thats why i went for a long life. More expensive but is real stainless.

so i was told anyway and ive seen them rust before. Not unless the ones i saw came from a dealers where they were buying in their own pipe to save money

There covered under a lifetime guarantee so cutting corners would only cost the company more in time with replacing the system.

Not to mention the legality of advertising and selling a product other then advertised and not of the quality it is sold as!

Longlife uses 304 stainless steel which will tarnish when subjected to salt. I think its the same for powerflow.
Magnex however use 316 which has a much better corrosion resistance. Hence why mine has covered 40k miles and still looks like new.

As for the exhaust, the system will be pretty much OEM with the oval exit as close to standard as possible and can be made as quiet as I want.

I didnt say rust. I said tarnishing. You do get this with 304, at work we use 316 in aapplications where salt is used as its quite simply much more resistant.. Plus ive had both powerflow and longlife pipes. My powerflow was 304 upto the 316 back box and it tarnished upto that point. Then my longlife which was all 304 tarnished from front to back. My magnex however is clean right through. You cant kind of keep on top of it with metal polishes but eventually I assure you it will lose its shine. Wink

Ah well, my car is lucky enough to receive a jet wash every two weeks, so I'm not too worried, but I see your point.

I wanted to wait until I could get AAS to do it, but the soonest they could even look at it would be the end of June and my current exhaust is literally hanging off the car, so I do need it ASAP.

Perhaps if I'd looked into it a bit further I'd have chosen otherwise?

Think how quiet you want it, then ask them for it to be 5 times quieter than that and you should end up close (going from personal experience and what I read on the tinterwebs about Longlife).

He seemed quite confident that he could make it quiet, I want the quiet at cruising and only noisy if I'm revving hard :p I do hope that is achieved

Longlife will modify it for some time after but yeah, they have a tendency to start off too loud. My one was nicely made though. I believe it was the mid sport with a slightly larger centre box.

Yep true. I asked for slightly louder than standard and it was silly loud. Proper chav spec but I went back and told him and he was good about it. Put another box in for free. Workmanship is great and the sound is lovely albeit slightly too loud for my liking still.

Well, I'm now sat waiting for my exhaust to be made and fitted. Unfortunately, the internally baffled backbox which was going to keep things pretty quiet doesn't fit the car due to the axle being in the way.

So I've had to go with one that'll be louder but will fit, so I suspect I'll be trying it this weekend and back to get it sorted... Or it'll be fine and not boomy at motorway speeds
