My old rallye actually failed because it had a magic tree air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror and the advisory was tax disk too far from a pillar, they did remove it though and pass it straight away

Glad it failed, I'd have been an arse and made it have to have a retest.

You're not allowed to obstruct your vision, yet you always see people with a multitude of dice, magic tree's, beads and other associated religious crap hanging in their field of vision.

Hadn't considered that; there aren't many cow pats in the city. My continual worry is dust particles from the road settling on the underside of my sump, so my under tray stays on. Sad

Iv never had issues with the dice hanging and it does not obstruct my view. From the posistion i sit my eye view is above where the dice are, however those shiny religious things do my head in blinding me with the sun on other cars. I guess it should still fail though and anyone could drive it with them still on.

As for thd sills, im surprised any are rotted as they get protection from stonechips via the skirts. Im sure mot testers can see the inside floor pan area of he sill, cant remembet how they are fitted so. I wonder if the mot tester testing a car thats been fully recondition all over floorpan would still leave this advisory knowing the sills would have had a good going over from looking at the decent work already carried out, discretion.

They might protect the metal from stone chips but they also keep any salty mud that gets into the gap in there and keep it nice and moist.

You can see on my project thread I have one rust patch on the sill - it started after the sill being dented through impact damage or incorrect jacking allowing the rust to start. The rest of the sills are perfect, showing the 306 is quite well made despite the thin metal - more than you could say for a Jag X-Type or even some German cars - saw remarkably crusty sills on a Merc C36 on a detailing world thread.

Lucky I found it otherwise I'd be driving around in a Rallye I'd spent loads of time and money on little suspecting that it was going to be in a bad way in a few years under that nice shiny sill cover.

I was hoping to beat this introduction with my Rallye's MOT as I have no airbags. IF they fail it on that, I shan't be impressed.

Thing is Simon, there's not much you can do about it if they do though, as that's the regulation...Thumbs down

Wont it be like seat belts for rear seats though, no rear seats no need for belts as in no air bags no need for light or something along those lines?

Or will it now change to cars that had seats have to have them?

More from a point that there is nothing left in mine, no airbag, no pretensioner, no wiring, no seatbelts. Previous owner was a numpty and just chopped everything out including the control module.

Pathetic change. This test used to be about making sure everyone's car met the same basic standards - in that you knew your neighbours wheel wasn't about to fall off or his suspension self destruct. If I choose to drive round with no airbags, it's not going to hurt anyone else is it?

Precisely, and this is the point. Smile

Unfortunately, you can blame the EU for all this load of rubbish. Yes

Recently, the EU (or some numpty sat in Brussels who hates bikes) has tried to inflict some laws on UK bikers. They include:

1. Mandatory Hi-Vis vest
2. No filtering (errmmm, what's the point in owning a bike then?)
3. A "Black Box" which is fitted to your motorcycle, whereby it records all the locations you've travelled between and what speeds you were doing on which particular roads. The Government would arm the constabulary with a device which they carry around with them and can plug into your bike (should they decide to pull you over) and see *exactly* what you've been doing and then decide whether to prosecute you...

There are a few more "new" rules which they are also trying to introduce with these, I can't remember all of them off my head.

Needless to say, the EU can go and poke it. Thumbs up

Ah, I've just remembered another one:

4. No modifications to a newly purchased bike AT ALL, even down to fact that if it left the dealership with Dunlop tyres for example, the only tyres you could ever fit to that motorcycle when they needed replacing were Dunlops. Thumbs down

Absolutely stupid. What about all the businesses out there which produce upgrades and aftermarket parts for bikes? I suspect if this law was brought in they'd go bust due to not being ALLOWED to sell someone a slip-on exhaust pipe or a set of short racing style levers...

But, don't worry the EU came up with the idea, so they'll save us all. Thumbs up

After all, so I'm told in this thread, the EU know best. Yes

We could end up a little like the netherlands where everyone uses cars for the track n not the road due to how much road tax costs.

This will be the start to all vehicles getting them black boxes, futre for our cars dont look pretty at all, what a bunch of sprouts, see what i did there???

What does the seatbelt pretension/malfunction mean for people with harnesses then since obviously they have none of the above, but also remove the need for airbags as you don't move once your strapped in.

Is there an issue with people that remove the ABS, since if you have aftermarket brakes, they probably have a better stopping distance, plus some cars don't have ABS to start, what goes on there. Is it a case of if it came on the car then it has to stay on the car?

Can you imagine the scenario, old car not worth much mechanically fine but air bag light on, failed and could cost £££s to be fixed, = one irate customer.
