Simple case of 'Do as i Say' not 'Do as i do'

When i served in the army, the officers didn't really abide by the rules, however enforcing the lower majority i.e. The private soldiers, meant that things ran smoothly and the majority knew the implications on the whole 'job' if the rules weren't adhered to.
The same applies out in the wider world, yeah you will get the odd bunch that are p**sed off if the 'enforcers' are bending the rules, but if you think about it we are providing a good example to others by 'sticking to the regulations'.

This is exactly it, someone who knows better should indeed be able to tell you what to do, and you should respect their wisdom if you had any common sense. Just grow up and accept you can't have everything your own way.

It wouldn't have cost much more, if any to have had the signs made correctly. Its not rocket science... its a bloody sign. The only reason there is wiggle room is because they set the goal posts and missed. Quite amusing really. However, im sure the sign is of good British quality. Wink

No-one said it was rocket science, it's just that clearly the people making it didn't think people would be petty enough to give a s**t, and no-one did until it got pointed out. This isn't exactly the white lining machine over a badger, or STOP spelled wrong across a road, we're talking about a slightly tall number on a sign.

Hardly cock-up of the century. If people really cared this much about minor inaccuracy, that's pretty much the news sorted for the next billion years.

If you got caught going through there at 5mph over the limit and received a ticket, you happily take the points and a fine? Or would you if you could without much problem use this an excuse to get ouy of it?

I'm not saying I wouldn't get out of it if someone said "hey everyone, we can all complain and let off", I'm saying I wouldn't be the guy with the ruler in the first place. That's the difference.

I would never go out, measure a sign and hire a lawyer off the back of it. At the same time I'm not an idiot, and if it turned into something like the PPI case and all I had to do was send off a letter and lose my points, of course I'd do it. Just like I buy things made in China, just like a buy Danish bacon. Because I, like the rest of you, am a hypocrite and don't bother supporting Britain as much as I could. Because whilst I love this country, I also love having nice things at a bargain price.

But at least I can admit it rather than blaming everyone else.

I wouldnt be there with the ruler either. Neither would stan im sure. But all we're saying id that to avoid the hassle this caused them they should be sure to make the things they use to enforce the law are calibrated, made to the correct current regulations set by themselves. There is always going to be someone trying to find fault.

Again, exactly this.

If you are going to set laws and regulations etc (as indeed a Government should) then in order for you to expect people to abide by them you ought to ensure the pieces of equipment used to enforce such laws do indeed themselves fall inside the current laws *set by the enforcer* in the first place. That way, we're all as they say, 'singing from the same hymn sheet'.

*If* the Government can't be bothered to ensure that their responsibilities are carried out in compliance with the law, then neither can I. Now Owain, you're not stupid, you come across as a well-educated chap with some common sense about your person, surely you can understand the point that I (and a few others here) are trying to make? Or am I just stark-raving mad all of a sudden? Dunno

The thing about the private soldiers bit is part elitism.

No matter what any of you argu about the facts still remain, law makers have be abide by the law for it to be legally enforced, thats how the system will aways be as long as life remains as it is.

Im surprised how many times this thread has gone round in circles, the facts still remain whether petty of not is not the point. Many criminals have got away with stuff just because the police didnt do things by the book, its the same principle.

Innocent till proven guilty???? I know of people who fit your criteria but they aren't criminals.

I never said anything about it being MY criteria. I'll rephrase it for the nik pickers, many people where the evidence has proved guilt had got away or similar with stuff because the police didnt do things by the book, its just part of how it all works.

Try rereading your criteria that you don't have that formed the sentence in #137

Many criminals, now that's a bold statement.

Would it be the case that 'some' murders were too far? What would be the limit? 1 million? 2 million?

LOL

It is, yes.

However, I'm struggling to see why it's only Beez, Aaron and myself who see the real issue here...why does everybody else who has given an opinion fail to see the complete lack of principle with regard to this?

Are us 3 just completely well off the scale? Or has everybody else become victims of the 'do as I say, not do as I do' brainwashing culture that the Government likes to think it injects into us? Dunno

Whoah, i see the point you are trying to describe. But because i have been trained to do as i'm told - i can deal with it a little better.
I am no brainwashed 'citizen', I do however struggle to see how things could be greener on the other side. And as Owain has once said already, we have got it pretty easy in this country compared to others.

I'd like to one day perhaps take a trip to Australia and see what it's like over there compared to our living.

In many ways it's even worse a nanny state than ours, they have red tape for just about everything, but they do support their own industry and the quality of life is supposedly much better. Just watch out for killer spiders in the Dunny.

We all have different opinions Stan, its just in this case its you three who agree together. I'm not brainwashed just because I'm part of a majority that doesn't share your opinion even though you're not actually wrong in this case but you're not right either.
