Youre looking at 5-600, best belt is 136 from gsf, £60 for a decent branded item, if its 137 now you will need the stud the tensioner sits on________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Dayco is the original belt manufacturer, and INA for the tensioners. However, you can pick up INA tensioners at most factors or SKF ones both are a good make. For the belt either go for the Dayco, Gates or Continental. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

So quotes came in, £600 + vat from a local garage, think Carl said something cheaper but still £500 + vatThen a mate of a mate can do it as a sideline earner for £400 (but no receipt or comeback presumably) Not sure how to proceed, it's the wrong month of the year for this to have happened really and I'm considering chucking the car. What's a realistic price if sold for spares and repairs? Right well the HG has been repaired, including a skim and I've had the car back. However the car (in my non-mechanic opinion) is now definitely tapping like a sewing machine! So before I even attend to the heater matrix, I'll be wanting that sorted. The chap who did the repair (not a garage, was cash in hand) said the noise was most definitely an oil lifter (?) that was probably stuck and would pop back into action once the car had gotten up to temperature and been run for about 50 odd miles (now done 80 since getting it back). He said this usually happened when he repaired heads at Vauxhall (where he used to work). He did say if it didn't clear, bring it back to him to get looked at again. Sadly I think it is valve contact to a piston head and am going to ask him to repair it again What sort of work will this require to correct, presumably new valves? The head wont need skimmed again will it, and the new cambelt and water pump shouldn't need replaced again right?? Will it need new head bolts? I don't plan to pay for the repair seeing as it his error to correct, but i'd like someone to give me an idea as to the cost of parts needed to sort it please? I might offer to pay for some of the parts to ease things along (but maybe I won't!) - will see what he says first... ________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |

Oh, is there any other reason it might make a tapping noise, just so i'm aware of any other bulls**t excuses (like friggin' oil lifters!!) that might come my way if the chap doesn't agree its valve contact.Does he need any special tool to time it up correctly, that he may not have realised he will have needed? It has PT80 cams, would that have caused confusion? ________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |

I very much doubt it's piston to valve contact that has caused it, it's probably valve to valve where they have tangled during installation and timing of the head. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

seeing as you have cams, it does sound like some valves have tangled Dont rule out the tapping lifter though. When i did my cambelt, mine tapped like a goodun but after a good ragging, the lifters sorted them selfs out and its nice and quiet now. Take it for a seriously hard drive and see if it calms down. |

I did say it had different cams (but I wasn't the guy to give him the car, so whether it was translated to him or not?)Don't know about how much was skimmed, or whether a thicker gasket used? As for bottom pulley, I have no idea what you mean, but the car should have the aluminium RichW pulleys?? ________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |

Hopefully this, I have yet to give it a good thrashing, which is what he recommended first. I'll try that first, and see if I can rule the problem out PT80s are incredibly mild though aren't they, not as aggressive as PT81's?? ________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |

welshpug! wrote: are you sure stan?... 0.3mm skim and PT's... worse case scenario of course.... That can't be purely down to cams though Mei, it's only affected one pot, the others are all untouched. I suspect that failure was down to a 'tapper' where by the valve head snapped off. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

Not untouched, all inlets were marked, you can see the ring aound them where theyve been rubbing.I am not speculating here, this is hard evidence of how close to the wind many "respected" so called specialists are, and how clueless joe bloggs is. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
