changing an engine is very easy, far easier than rebuilding one.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

How much does a second hand head cost, and are they tricky buggers to remove and refit yourself?________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |

Maybe a bit of a silly question, but if this is all down to the skim in the head causing valve contact (and I assume they're only skimming a tiny amount off)Could I not just add a second headgasket to compensate for the reduced head room and tighten down. Would that, or a thicker gasket, not resolve the problem ? Along with replacing the valves and other necessary bits aswell ________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |

Don't assume, you need to find how much was removed and yes a thicker gasket is required if this is the issue, only pikeys use two gaskets.Alll you need to do is either ask the garage o specialist that skimmed it, or measure the height of the head, new is 137mm, minimum is 136.8 +/- 0.05. IF new bolts were used you can re-use them as they are not the stretch type, but it is wise to check the length to ensure they haven't stretched (yes they still will stretch even though they are not stretch type) you wont easily find an MLS type gasket thicker than 1.2mm (i,e standard oe fit) but there are plenty of 1.35 and 1.4 and 1.45mm gaskets available in the fibre type, it is not a problem to use this type, its what is used in most pug engines, ALL alloy block XU's used them, as did the turbo engines. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Cheers Welsh, great answer!I'm staggered that we're talking fractions of a millimetre and can still cause such headaches ________________________________________ Team: Moonstone GTI-6™Team: ian7675 wrote: Remember....a 6 isn't just a car, it's a part time job |
