I've been doing three, cant get the 1450kg payload we carry on a mk6, not with twin rear wheels and a tail-lift at any rate.

You ever heard the phrase "flogging a dead horse"? That van is dead. It's a non-van.

"It's dead, Dave."

Let it rest in dignity, goddamit! It's the van equivalent of Joan Rivers. It'll never look like a new van, it'll look like an old van trying to look like a new van.

Mutton dressed as van.

I'd suggest weighing it in but there's not much left to weigh!

If it makes u feel better tho, my old mans 02 focus is having sills welded on it today too. holes the length of my arm on it! never expected it on a focus.

Yeah, one where there's no money in it and it's fitted in in the dead time between paying jobs, evenings, weekends that sort of thing.

But yeah, if there was another option or we had to pay out to get it done then there's no way we'd be tackling a truck this far gone.

Dad says it's good practice for me Laugh my ass off

Mate you are truly an incredible craftsman and I wholeheartedly admire your work.

That doesn't mean you're not mentally unwell for wanting to repair that van. I'd say you should get it acid-dipped and primed/sprayed good as new, but I'm not sure anything would come back up from the acid bath, it'd be like that bit in Jurassic Park where they lower the cow into the raptor pen.

That's such a good analogy! Laugh my ass off

And it's not something I wan't to do, boss says do it, I do it (Within reason!)

Th only way for small independant agnts to profitably deliver industrial gas is on 3.5 tonne vehicles, the extra legislation, ADR drivers, CPC and O licence required to carry gas on 7.5 tonners increases costs massively which cant be recouped on existing delivery charges and bottle commission. Problem is you just can't legally get the weight we need to carry on the modern vans. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to say sod it and go out and source a nice shiny new Sprinter or something with a custom lightweight bed on, but they're just too heavy. Hence it's a seemingly endless stay in Transitville, population one (Dave).

Would have been easier to build a new van, and swap the plate over.

You'll have the same thing in the end!

I've seen what passes for MOT welding, I don't think I've got much to worry about. I might just do murder if one of our drivers prangs it once it's back on the road though!

I was saying to Dad we should attempt a spaceframed Tranny front end, then just transfer the lump and running gear!

No takers on that one though.

I don't get why a 2 ton T350 mk6/7 can't carry the same as a 2 ton mk5 T190 (3.5 ton) i.e, 1.5 tons?

Or are the flatbed mk6 chassis that teeny bit heavier?
