I was twitchy when i took the first one off LOL!

Just on the lookout now for a dirt cheap set of 16" GTi nimrods for some track tyres.

They look great but either they don't feel as fast as a 306 or they are just a bit more refined? Saying that the suspension is rock hard.

It was a good car but it took me a good while to get as ease with its handling. Madness how all the top mount bearing were shagged as they didn't feel like they ever had an issue.Dunno

Carls right, the OE suspension is very firm, plus the wheelbase is shorter than a 306, so naturally it feels more twitchy on the limit.

I was amazed at the top mounts TBH carl, as the steering wasnt heavy or graunchy or anything. Good job id got the bits to swap as a precaution.

The refinement bit is more the key, they are quieter than a 6, hands down, and it seems to gather speed with little drama, or real noise, hence they can feel slower than a rorty 6.

A few more detail improvements will see it exactly how i want it.

I find them hard and crashy on std suspension but feel quicker than a 6. The downside is pedal box and slow steering rack in my opinion

ive thought about getting a 180 as, well as people say, they're a bit more refined than the 6... still £2.5-3.5k though, which is getting into EP3 Type R terratory.

they look nice though, needs some 16" TD's or speedlines..

heres a snapette of my old xsi 206 (1.6 16v) at trax

Really? Can't say I've ever followed the values but where I rent a unit a chap has a blue one for £1500 and I get the impression he'd budge a fair bit on that.

yea i've seen some go on the off chance for £1500 ish. - i don't like the blue Razz so i'm stuck to the remaining 3 colours.

id want to spend about £2-2.5k for a tidy one i'd think though, i wouldn't want to have to dick about with body work again etc. any more and you might as well just buy something better.

Could be a money pit though Kev, Finance repo, needs a bonnet, and bits round it. Looks a bit chavved with the shopping list down the doors.

Would make a cheap track s**tter though.

I've had an hours tinkering with mine in the garage, colour coding the alloy SP fuel filler cap. Looks loads better.

    Pics soon.

As some will now, the "sporty" 206's came with the alloy finished fuel cap, now depending on body colour, they either blend in, like on the wifes Silver one, or stand out like an inflamed clitoris on the darker ones, like my Aagean Blue ones.

So, not been a fan of it, I stripped the cap from the inner workings, bunged it in the sink and scrubbed it with Fairy, dried it and then scotchpad'd it up in readyness for for Primer

    Etch primered it up

Painted it with 4 coats of Halfrauds finest Aagean Blue

    4 coats of Halfrauds Laquer

Flashed it off with the hot air gun, then bunged it in the airing cupboard overnight to dry fully.

Refitted this morning, quite pleased with it.

    So...

    Before and after

    Matt

I'm not a fan of anything with Allen bolts moulded into the surface of it on principle. But I like what you've done there, subtle and worth the effort.

I know Superchips have done a decent map for these, dunno how it compared to Magic's Haltech and custom map though, but I do remember Nick Charles's 180 pulling over 200 ATF at powerstation, I can't remember the torque but that's the area where most gains are to be found on this particular EW.

Cheers Mei, just looked up the Superchips website, currently on offer at £199 incl Vat, and TCR (Total Control Racing) are just down the road from my work, so i'm gonna call them in the week.

I'd be happy with the 190bhp they claim, should be enough to worry some CTR's on trackdays.

Trying to buy some 16" nimrods at the moment, then next job is the get underneath with the pressure washer and start cleaning the arches and underneath up.

t3ora - i'm gonna colour code your ballbag tuesday night if you keep on!!LOL

I think a standard one would keep a CTR at bay on a bumpy twisty track Wink

As for wheels Id go 15", cheaper tyres and lighter wheels, Nimrods are heavy.

I think you'll find he was told it was 201BHp just after being done but it never ever made that figure again.
Anyway he was happy with it and kept it a long time. Pulled well with four of us in it, ride was terrible on B roads though (eibachs and 17s).

Done some proper miles in the s**tter over the Easter weekend, it's given the chance for the new suspension to settle in. The B8/Eibach combo works every bit as well on the 206 as it did on my last 306. High speed ride and body control is vastly improved, and the pitch and bounce it had before is gone.

It corners much more like a 306 now, you can feel the weight transfer to the outside rear wheel, and traction is much better.

Im leaving the suspension at that now, ive looked into some uprated torsion bars for it from Peugeot Sport in france but i really cant be arsed with pulling the new beam apart to mess.

Wheels and tyres are next, still undecided what to do, im thinking along the same Compomotives i had on the 306, but in the correct et28 206 offset, in anthracite?? 16"s of course!
