i really like these. i could not bring myself to swap my m3 evo for one though when i last had an encounter with a dealership selling one. "they are ruthless, you will be amazed, same performance as your m3 mate". anyway, they look nice. the seats look big though

The seats would dwarf you Rick. Make you look like a baby in a childseat. You'd need an Isofix rollcage.

I'm sure the interior is nicer than a 6 (let's face it, almost anything is) and it will be a technical improvement in some ways, and maybe even better built, but I just don't love these in the same way as I love the 306 shape. The 306 just looks right. I was never convinced by the 206 (or all subsequent Pugs to be honest) even when they were new.

(And the fact I had an uptight and rude, bigging-herself-up-a-lot female work colleague with a blue 206 cabriolet cemented that opinion. She drove past me one day looking down her (somewhat large-ish) nose as she went).

But I'll be very interested to see what you do with it Matt. Your 6 thread was fantastic and I use it for reference when working on my own car.

What a day, was at the circuit at 7am to grab a garage as the weather looked changeable, so after signing on, the track was opened at 9am (open pitlane format), was out there straight away, on the 17" wheels with questionable road tyres on.

As a comparison Rich was there in his stripped out rallye, caged, new r888's, decat and stainless exhaust, lowered and uprated suspension.

Power wise the two cars are identical. Torque wise the 206 has the legs out of the hairpin, but in the faster stuff, Rich was edging away. Before the haters start - bear in mind the 206 is fully trimmed and on chinese rubber...

After about 7 laps (full international circuit) Rich's oil temp was 140c+, the 206 sat at 100c all day long, so i could stop out for much longer.

In the morning i changed wheels to some 15" GTI6 Steelies, with trashed r888's on, just to see if it made a difference, and yes it did. Acceleration was much better, and even though they were well past their best, they gave much better grip over the new road tyres. So there is plenty of potential there!!!

Suspension wise the 206 is tired, so thats where the money will be spent next. The shagged 888's are being replaced with Federal 595 RS-R's in the near future and im looking at some coilovers for the front and some uprated dampers for the rear. Bushes at the front end will be changed for uprated ones and that should be it.

The weather had a turn for the worse after lunch, with rain most of the afternoon, the chinese tyres were tbh, worse than s**t, quite comical if im honest. It was loos central, at least it gave me an idea of what the chassis was like past the limit.

We gave it neck at 4pm and headed for home. I managed 154 miles on track today, and used about a tank of fuel and a 20litre jerry can, still got a 1/4 of a tank left, so better on fuel than the 306 also.

Just sorting some pics out now, and some video footage i shot off both mine and rich's rallye.

Sounds like the 'Doublestar' tyres put on my car by the PO - treacherous is the best word to describe them, especially nasty in the wet; squirmy under braking and long stopping distances and frequent ABS activation.

I did, was that "redrallye"? I had a walk over to it a few times but no-one was near it, bonnet was off and the tools were out as well.

Yep 'twas Ed, had some 'wiring issues' I believe! Roll eyes I was supposed to drop down myself today but ended up workin instead! Sad
When you say the 'tools were out', do you mean Ed had his wide array of hammers(air cooled fine adjustment tools) and screwdrivers (chisels) out to try and bodge his already dodgy wiring?? LOL

There were a number of sockets and a ratchet cast accross the rocker cover, but no Ed to be seen.

I did see it running but was misfiring under boost it sounded like.

My mate Jay was there in his 330+bhp Let Nova, and he called it a day at dinnertime when he split the chassis leg from the front crossmember AGAIN!!

Looks fun, wish my Rallye was ready for trackday fun. Sad How come you were fairly even in the twisties if he's caged and running semi slicks?

Also, has your car got an oil temp gauge? I can't believe that it keeps the oil so much cooler, I would expect a combination of unresponsive gauge and perhaps a particularly cool sensor area?

Are those tyres stretched over the alloys (as in not the correct width)

The pic of it outside your crib on the previous page seems to look like it's imitating a VAG scene car

They *should* be 205 wide. When I had mine fitted, I found the tyres did look a bit stretched.

The tyres are the correct 205 40 17 size as specified for the 180, they just move a lot under extreme cornering, however are reasonable on the road.

As for the oil temps, the 180's got a much bigger oil temp gauge in the dash and the most i could get it to was 110c, even after 20 mins of hard lapping, on the road it sits at 90 and it only got to 110 after about 15 mins of circuit use.

The rallye on the other hand gets to 140c within 4 hard laps, and he keeps going!!! Done about 6 trackdays on the same oil and it never misses a beat. For how long i dont know?

Maybe the oil temps are lower on the 180 as its an alloy block, with better heat disperion???

As for looking like a girl, i'd be a pretty unfortunate pull, even for Ratty!!! LOL

My mate Tintin (rs1600i) has got me a mint pair of Phase 2 crystals for it to replace the awful morettes, and im in two minds to get them black masked or not?

Suspensions next - the 180's already run 21mm torsion bars and bigger rear ARB than the normal 2.0 gti and the rear beam has the sway bars that the estate has also. I suspect Carl may have lowered it a tad as well when he rebuilt the beam as it certainly needs to go no lower, so the rear will be treated to some Bilstein B8's, and the fronts will end up as B8/eibach 30mm set up. That should lose some of the front ride height and firm it up nicely.
