Gaaah More rust!!! Just a little more severe this time.

Don't you ever get that moment when you wish you hadn't poked anymore with the screwdriver and found more holes??
Looks like this might need welding at some point!!

Rust treatment doing its work:

The sooner you crack on with the underside the better though. I'm just drilling new holes for the heat shields and undersealing atm. Wink

What? the welding of the holes?
I've already treated the rust and now it has a fresh coat of underseal on the Chassis. Smile Pictures will come soon.

That needs more than some Kurust and underseal.

I've just had these crossmembers on mine cut off and replaced with new metal as, like yours, some bellend quite early in the car's life had jacked my car up on these and stoved them in (maybe even at the dealer where they were both sold new!), damaging the paint and allowing rust to start and holes to form.

The guy who did it for me said it was not a big job to fix, the metal was easily formed with basic tools, using the old ones as a template. The new metal was primed with Etchweld weld-through primer before installation, then seam sealed, stone chipped and wax injected after. Now good as new.

EDIT: In my case it needed the subframe dropping to get the welder under the subframe corner, but I was replacing my subframe anyway.

I pulled up the carpets and bent the floors down flat (also bent up by wrong jacking so carpets didn't fit properly) before welding, then zinc primed and after welding painted the inside where there was a bit of paint blistering.

The old metal after being cut out was rusty on the inside. If you are keeping the car indefinitely, I'd get it done now while it is a simple enough job.

I also remember the feeling of wishing I hadn't uncovered it.

I'm gonna have to wait a little while before i get it welded, might pay Daveyboy a visit in Southampton one weekend to get it sorted.
I will be keeping the car for as long as i can afford it, so it will need to be done.
This is a more temporary fix in order to preserve it a little longer until i can afford to get it cut out and welded.

Cleaned up the rear end, however i need to take off the Rear beam at some point due to rust on the mounts. Also enables me to completely respray the entire underneath. Probably will take down the Fuel tank as well.

Such a shame about the rust Sad

I had a 106 Rallye a few months back and did the same, shell had done 165k so started poking underneath to discover there was a huge hole near the wishbone mount

An easy fix though and you will have stopped it starting anywhere else Smile

That was the main aim for getting under there, i'm sure there is more rust around the crossmembers but... i did expose all that i could find and treated it. Fingers crossed it will have sorted it out as the metal underneath the rust seemed solid.

Spent some monies today Sad

Bought myself a replacement Spare wheel carrier bolt

And found myself tempted by some mint condition Crystal headlights for £36 from a scrapyard.
I wanted to black mask them, so i did Wink

Same colour as my Cyclones will be going

Photo of the old headlights with standard bulbs

Can tell the difference with the new Osram Nightbreaker bulbs, much better clearer headlights!!

Will get a better photo of the Black masked headlights tomorrow.

Not bad for a second time of doing this to headlights huh?

It'll be quite expensive, as there is quite a lot of hard work and supplies that go into this to achieve such a good standard.
I'll have to track down some decent lights (unless you send me some) and once done - send it back to you. Smile

Mik - You able to do the black masks yourself or do you need a set done for you? Wink
