You pass a police car coming opposite direction, a few moments later decide to give your car a spirt of speed for 100meters coming out of a 20mph zone (no other cars or people around). Moments later blue lights a fair way behind coming after you, pull over to side of road straight away and a pair of regular bobbies in a regular panda car pull in behind (the same car had passed minutes ago). You are invited into the back of their car for a 'chat'.

You are given a 'producer' and threatened with a ban for driving like an 'idiot'. How far would said case go without any 'evidence'.. i.e miles behind you playing catch up when the 'offence' took place and no photographic/video evidence?

Not that this happened to myself or anything.

Thumbs down

"Yes officer, no officer" ... Produce the documents ... Forget about it.
Unless they told you they are pursuing a case.

Hmmm, they did say they will be taking it to court. One of them was a bit of a jobsworth.. the other was a noob. I just don't see how you can prove excessive speed with no monitoring equipment and covering such a short distance of 'offensive' driving..

I think there was something like this on here years ago, were someone was done and the police couldn't see much of the road ,but was done because the police said it looked and sounded as if he was speeding.

You wouldn't be prosecuted for speeding as there is no actual evidence of any speed....however, it would be for "undue care and attention" whilst driving for which the Officers statements would be sufficient enough evidence if you so wished to go to court.

You wouldn't be threatened with a ban by an Officer though, that's up to the court.

I couldn't be 100% with the answer but probably a standard 3 points at the roadside but if it goes to court then who knows. I expect darren9 is your man for a better answer Thumbs up

Cheers mate i feel older than i am somedays Smile

Due car and attension is usually 3-9 points depending on how bad the offence, i got a 4 pointer for doing 38mph in a 30 zone due it being on the approach to a corner that had a primary school the other side and it was 8.45 in the morning but only a few weeks later got court doing 109mph in a 50 (was late at night) police officer (a family friend) was on his own and the calirabion on the gun wasn't up to date so he sent me on my way and told me not to do it anything like that again

I think it all depends on the copper thats pulled you over tbh

P.S all above done in my young and stupid days and i dont drive like that now, points dont make prizes Sad

I got coaxed into flooring it on country lane in me mondeo by a skoda Octavia vrs near home.
When i hit 105 on a massive straight uphill section, blue lights came on in it's grill I couldn't belive it.
A telling of and a few cheeky smirks later and he sent me on my way, funny thing is he never said slow down you could hurt yourself an others, he said slow down your going to wear your car and engine out.
he was just upset he couldn't gain anything on me up the hill in the higher gears, he made a point if reminding me i was in a diesel lol

No idea what a likely outcome would be though.

These days the police already know if the car is legal, so i don't understand why they asked to provide a producer

I got stopped for some spirited driving last week. Officer, who breathalysed me already new my name, and asked if I was heading to my home address

Sort the producer out, see if the police do anything after that, then get advice

Without evidence they don't have a leg to stand on your word against theirs ? Do the producer then don't worry about it.
