Right progress has been slow but the guys putting my seats in and painting my boot have done a great job.We ummm`d and arrr`d about going fully fixed on the drivers seat but because its going to be driven by more than one person I decided to go with rails on the drivers seats. For safety reasons I want to fix them but using 4 point harnesses will spread the load and reduce the stress on the rails if the worst did happen. I asked the guys doing it to remove as little of the original sound proofing on the floor as possible to try and make it look tidy, and also remove the original mounting box section for the standard seats so we could position the seats exactly where we wanted them. 20151222_092227_1 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr The aim was to try and get the seats as tight to the tunnel as possible to improve weight distribution but still maintain a good driving position. After a couple of position mock ups and ins and outs the guys marked the location and made up the CDS (FIA spec) tubes. Its going to be a shame to put a carpet over it. FB_IMG_1452340054419 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I should get it back next week but ive also been amassing some more bits to go with my present from Santa. 20151217_071018 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Some shiny new disc protectors. 20160109_121112 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Some very expensive SKF rear bearings - i never knew rear bearings were so expensive! 20160109_121136 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr |

Good work I'd have taken the insulation material out from the footwells before welding in seat bars.I've got to buy rear wheel bearings for the race car, they're crazy money! ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Yeah, i see why you`d take it out of a race car or pure track motor but it won't make much difference to me. It's still my only car (not that i need it ti commute in).I had no idea....those SKF ones were over 200 for the pair! |

Today I'm a happy chappy20160114_091109 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I picked up the Rallye from having the seats fitted and they've done a great job. It looks OEM which is exactly what i was hoping for- apart from the carpet gap between the front and back which is on me to sort. 20160114_091049 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr The position is much lower and despite holding you so firmly it feels like it could drive upside down they are seemingly quite comfy (I need to have a long drive before I pass complete judgement!). 20160114_091100 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr My favourite pic - i really like that you can see the new seat bars from the back. 20160114_084216 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr |

So last weekend a friend and i attacked the rear beam on the Rallye.20160214_114341 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I don't think i posted any pics of it but i love the look of the back of the Rallye with its new ph3 boot. Anyway back to the beam; Everything was seized and it was raining so it was a right pig of a job. Having a spare pair of hands and an extra jack was really useful though. 20160214_114356 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Everything was very crusty so the wire brush and WD40 had a proper work out. I needed to get all the bits off the beam so i could reuse the bolts and brackets behind the disc covers on the new beam. 20160214_114404_edit_1456302291221 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr The ABS sensors are properly bonded at the atomic level to the rear bracket so they will need properly bathing in WD40. To get the hubs and brackets off the stubs I bought a cheap hub and gear puller which made the job so much easier - I'd highly recommend it if anyone else is doing anything similar - great but of kit. The hubs didn't look too cleaver and certainly haven't been changed in the 5+ years I've had it. 20160221_120117 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr 20160221_115439 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Everything that is getting reused is now soaking in a bucket of cider vinegar to before they get reused - the garage smells like a fish & chip shop. The new beam will be -30, 21 TBs with B6 dampers. Also while doing it I'm going to replace the off side rear caliper that didn't get changed when the nearside one was, and I've decided to get rid of the brake compensator and fit braided lines. I don't know if I'll do it all at the same time but I've also decided to get rid of the ABS. |

Well, I've been a bit distracted lately because I've added another car to my fleet.....given it drives from the wrong end and has almost 3 times the power of the Rallye its takening a bit of learning.20160501_171919 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr 20160326_113523 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Enough of that though. I got the new beam built up and put the newly painted brakets on with the new hubs and de-rusted bolts which was so much more satisfying than taking it apart. 20160319_125352 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr 20160319_125407 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Got it finished and the other front damper built up. 20160319_171928 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I noticed while i had the exhaust off that one of the welds had cracked which is why it was making a weird vibrating noise at some revs. 20160319_172039 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr One of my friends (who also has a nice motor in the back ground) came around to help get it all fitted up. IMG-20160418-WA0004 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Before I removed the brake bias. 20160417_134339 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr How the back now sits.... 20160417_130713 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr It looks so much better now from the back... 20160424_105515 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I also trial fitted the new wheel to see what it looked like and how much clearance i had. 20160424_111003 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I also managed to find some time to finish fitting my black B and C pillar trim which looks soooo much better. 20160417_173210 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr 20160417_173236 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I then moved on to fitting the front dampers. Before; 20160424_111836 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr I was surprised how much shorter the Bilstein are than the standard items. 20160424_121030 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr New bits in place... 20160424_143731 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr Much better. 20160424_145540 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr It had been stood outside on axle stands for 5 weeks so I gave it a wash before I pushed it back into the garage. 20160424_160054 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr It looks much better than before but i think the front still needs to settle a bit...it looks a tad high compared to the back. Next on the list is to remove the rest of the ABS, run new brake lines, fit my braided rear lines brake bias valve and get the exhaust welded.....it's slowly getting there. |

Looks nice, some very tasty mods going on there. Like the M3 in Silverstone blue (?). Mate at work has an M3 same shape but Saloon and has just finished rebuilding it from an engine change, his span a bearing shell and shagged the crank. Horrific repair bill. :| ________________________________________ I'm Si btwNight Blue VW Golf GTD Bianca LBSC Rallye - Track/Road Slag Project Thread Sparkling Silver Mini Cooper D - Super Dooper - (The other half's wheels) |

Thanks. Yeah, spot on with the colour. In my oppinion it's the best colour because you get to se all the bulges, vents and differences compared to the standard e92. I was scared of similar issues so I made sure its got a AUC warranty. Have you got you're MOTd yet? |

The Rallye disappeared the other weekend on a friends trailer to have the new brake lines fitted.20160522_0911311 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr There is always something cool about seeing a car on a trailer....anyway it should be back next week after the brake bias is fitted, handbrake cable, echaust welding and new brake lines are fitted. |
