+1 on interest in seeing the detail of how you sort the seats - I still haven't got the Recaros I bought last year into my car. In particular, will the headroom be better when you've finished?

Thanks. Yeah, I'm interested to see how it turns out! I've fiddle with them and the old seats but it is certainly outside my skill set.

The guy that is going to fit them does lots of race/track car prep and fabrication. Ive told him what i want to do - make it look like an oem set up and hopefully retain some adjustment but get them sitting lower. Watch this space!

What Recaro`s have you got? Are they out of another car or new/off the shelf?

My welding was about 180 i think...i got a cheaper quote but the guy that did it had better reccomendations.

How much did you pay for the recaros bud?

I had a plan for my spare Rallye interior involving a Ph1 set of seats but I might well have just changed my mind.....

They came out of a Clio 200 and I got them off ebay for 900-for the pair, on runners. There were cheaper ones but these looked in the best condition and the seller seemed the most genuine.

I think they might just be going in in time because i notices a couple of very small wear patches on the drivers seat at the weekend.

I've got leather Recaros out of a Ford Puma Millenium edition. They are lovely seats but not particularly light. I mocked one of them up in the car to see if they would work using factory bases, pretensioners etc but were no lower than stock, and if I'm going to all that trouble they need to be lower so like you I think I need expert assistance. I've got a leather bench rear that I'll dye to match. Ill also recondition the Rallye interior and keep it for special occasions.

Our weekend in Wales! We drove most of north wales and took in the EVO Triangle and Snowdonian with a great mix of cars and friends.

20150822_162253 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

We did 700+ miles from Friday night to Sunday....spot the odd one out...with much shallower pockets!

IMG-20150823-WA0018 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

The Rallye ran faultlessly and kept up with all the fancy metal but the new gear linkage has developed an irritating rattle at mid-range. I have forgiven it though because the gear change is absolutely stella.

IMG-20150823-WA0014 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

I think I am going to fit a very small O ring on the inside of the linkages to try and fix it...I also think the makeshift heatshield might be rattling too.

After months of looking I also managed to find the wheels I wanted (in exactly the right size) 10 minutes down the road on Gumtree for an absolute steal!

_58 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

The tires on them are proper ditch finders and they need a refurb but they look the business!

20150913_163104 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

I just need some spacers and new bolts. The wheels are et35 7j so I haven't yet decided if I go for 20mm or something like 24mm for a bit of a wider track. Ultimately I don't want them to rub under load.

My seats get fitted on Monday so I'll get some pictures up in the week.

Right.....small depressing update. Got a call from the guy that was fabricating and fitting my seats last week to say that the blood things won't fit - well technically they will fit but will sit around 9cm higher which is next to useless.

So....I have learnt my lesson and am going to buy some seats that I KNOW will fit. I'm selling my Recaro's and with the money looking at either some Corbeau Pro Series or Sparco Evo. Does anyone have any experience with either? They are both about the same money and weight; I like the Corbeau because its British and I like the Sparco because it has a bit of heritage with being used in some Peugeot motorsport cars. I probably need to have a sit in both back to back but there is nowhere near that I can find.

I want them to be comfortable enough for road trips but I don't want them to be heavy - because lets face it the 306 isn't light compared to Clio's etc.

I've also started buying parts for the new beam I am going to order and rubbing down the Billstein dampers I bought with the aim of having it done for Brands Hatch on the 4th of Dec.

Shame about the seats. I love them. So so comfy. They do sit quite high in the Clio unfortunately.

Yeah, they said that they could get it to sit lower than the original seats but it would involve lowering parts of the floor pan which isn't something that made much sense.

I've got a good pile of parts collection in the car room (my girlfriends calls it the dining room)

20151101_092519 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

The Recaro seats sold really quickly and went to a guy in Scotland who was re-trimming them to put in his AMG project car. I decided to go with Sparco Evo's and I'm really happy with the finish on them.

20151021_190439 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

My wheel has also arrive which is complete porn.

20151101_092510 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

My Billie's are also slowly coming along in my makeshift spray booth.

20151125_070617 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

I've also removed my rear seats and belts. The belts took longer than I expected....it was really fiddly getting the side trims off. I also found 2 pens, a 10m Snap On spanner, lots of saw dust and lots of needless amp and sub cabling from the old chav system the guy had in before.

20151026_063806 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

The rear seats are in great condition and will be in the for sale section soon...I'm sure you will be interested in them Ben!

I also got around to removing the spare wheel and cage today....which looked like something you would pull out of the Thames.

20151101_142731 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

I was pleasantly surprised to find the boot floor behind the wheel was in pretty good condition - excuse the close up picture.

20151101_142748 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

While I was cleaning under the boot carpet I noticed I am missing a couple of these gromits. Does anyone know what the part number is or where I could find some?

20151101_143021 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

Also, has anyone got any suggestions to what I should used to plug the hole made by removing the space wheel holder nut near the back of the car?

I can imagine in wet weather you could get a fair bit of rubbish spat through it.

Those retaining brings are used on many other models and are regularly on eBay.

Measure the spare wheel hook hole and sourcethe appropriately sized blank grommet.

So i found out that the bore on the wheels i bought are too small for the 306 hubs which is irritating. So they have gone on ebay and i bought some new direct fit Challenge`s from Speedline direct. I bought them in the Friday afternoonand was surprised to have them delivered by Saturday morning - great service.

20151114_101113 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

So once i`ve trial fitted them I'll try and pick a colour for them.

Also after Mocinim`s reccomendation i went for a poke around a French car scrap yard near me.

20151114_105913 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

If i was looking for Clio or 206 bits i would of been sorted!

They did have a few 306s so I got the rear carpet trim grommets I was missing. I took my old spare wheel with me to see if he would dispose of it for me but I ended up swapping it with him and 10 quid for a phase 3 boot...which i was well happy with.

20151114_162017 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

    Its grotty but sound.

I finished painting (2 coats of zinc primer, 4 coats of signal yellow and 3 of lacquer) the first front damper. Altough its not a good colour match it will protect them which was the main goal.

20151125_070632 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

IMG-20151028-WA0011 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

    Much better.

My OMP wheel and boss went on at the weekend. I need a resistor for the airbag light but fitting it was relatively painless.

20151121_124153 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

I'm really pleased with it. The standard wheels are so ugly but after years of driving it with the old wheel it will take some getting used to. It feels very light and -certainly a placebo- inputs feel quicker.

I've got a track day at Brands on the 4th so i just need to give it a check over and a wash now.

Well, Brands was un- characteristically dry for December. I've only got a couple of pics from my phone so I'll put the better pics up later.

20151204_111923 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

It was my dads first track day and he loved it.

20151204_103750_HDR by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

These two golfs were really well sorted so i was surprised i could keep up with them in the wet....in the dry i had no chance.
The blue one was particularly kinky and got flagged off a couple of times for to much popping and banging.

20151204_153437 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

Very cool looking set of Golfs hidden away.

I trial fitted the wheels in gale force winds yesterday. I was set on getting them painted a very dark grey/black straight away but i surprised myself and think the white looks good. So I've decided to keep them white and see how I get on....I'll probably drive myself mental trying to keep them clean.

20151205_135227 by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

I'm sure it will be fine but the wheels are much closer to the dampers.

20151205_135239_HDR by Nick Buxton, on Flickr

I've also stripped, cleaned, de-moulded, polished, de-wipered and put the boot back together. The wiper was an absolute pig to get off but the rest of it has come out well. There's no rust on it which is the main thing. The glass has got some stuff under the laminate but it's minimal.

Also i dropped it off to have the seats fitted today so I should be going to for a fitting in the week and get it back before next weke.
