Well, considering what Denis is using on his Rallye and the weight difference, then 515 is pretty tame...Rides bumps a load better, sticks better and I can get what little power i've currently got down a load earlier. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

It is not the spring rate that matters – it is the wheel frequency: the function of spring rate and the weight that it supports. With say 500kg per front corner and 500lb springs gives 2.16Hz – equivalent to 306 running with 340lb springs.________________________________________ Cherry Red Rallye Project threadWhiteBMW M140i |

Cheers denis, i'll have a read up about it. Looks like they are rather on the stiff side, but won't really know until its corner weighted. Seems a little over the top for a volvo estate mind...________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

Its working fine now. Did 120 miles around Castle Combe a few weeks ago on the T5D5 track day. Was pretty awesome in the rain tbh. Did a 16 lap stint with no issues at all, except a small LOOS moment on the main straight to miss someone coming out of the pits. 95mph sideways on grass isn't fun. Did 4 hill runs on sunday at pugfest too.Mixing it with 2000 miles over the last two weeks i'd say its a fairly well used car at the moment. Only thing that has really shown me the door was some kind of chevrolet import sedan. No idea what it was or what was in it, but it was pretty quick until the next roundabout. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

So... its been a fairly long time since I updated this thread due to one reason or another. Most of my time on the car has gone into sorting the engine management light being on. Connecting it to various OBDII computers has shown various problems. The volvo software has been showing a long term fuel trim code for ages, basically it has an air or boost leak somewhere between the MAF and rear lambda. A visit to MRG cars in chippenham (volvo main dealer) allowed them to pressure smoke test the inlet side and find a huge leak in the maf/turbo pipe. That replaced its still throwing up the code, but now genuinely feels ~250BHp. I'm going to replace the intercooler with something better fitting and re-do a lot of the pipework. That should hopefully sort it out and reduce the tiny amount of lag i've currently got. Otherwise its had a replacement rear subframe to sort out the camber, thicker D5 rear ARB and I raised the rear coilovers by 20mm, about 35mm at the wheels. The rear dampers need to be completely rebuilt (already) cos they are fooked and i'm not best pleased about it. AST are obviously sorting that out. I had a couple of days spare in september so decided to wrap the beast. The 3 different colour paints were beginning to p*ss me off and I'd also got hold of a black facelift R front bumper that needed a bit of repair. Chose to go for a new material to me. Hexis HX30000 frozen grey satin metallic. Its lush to work but i'm not completely convinced about it covering deep recesses. Time has shown it to not like them all that much. Anyway a nice learning curve and I enjoyed doing it - thanks to Ash and Anton for giving me a hand The roof is black normal oracal vinyl and the tailgate is more hexis matt black. It will be signwritten and have a grille at some point... ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

Wheels will go anthracite at some point.MTE stage 2 remap and a 3" turbo downpipe also at some point. Oh and not massively impressed by Eagle F1 Assymetrics in 225/45/17. Very little steering feel and they aren't that great. Going to try the SportContact3s that are on the rear on the front after winter. Pilot Sport 3 the best so far, Avon ZV5s over the Eagles... Winter tyres this year are Bridgestone Blizzaks on the front and some WinterContacts on the rear. Ebay bargains with 5+mm left for about £40 a corner. Its going to germany in december for our hols ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

Still waiting for the rear dampers to be re-valved. Was hoping it would be today, but its not.Meantime its been clouted by a XC90 on the rear bumper. Few scratches and splits, but its fair to say the wrap is holding it together quite well. Shame they didn't hit the tow bar - it gives me about 5mm of crumple zone across the back now Might get it to a track day on the 16th November at Combe but money is a bit tight at the moment. We'll see! ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

No winter treads yet. No money to fit them!!B roads were very good indeed. It lacks steering feel, but you still know what the front end is doing. Does try to push wide on power, but lift and the rear swings out. Managed 20 laps at combe on the 16th in the wet (again) and it was a lot quicker than last time. Not having to fight the rear as much, but the F1s on the front weren't as good as the Pilot Sports for braking. Putting down power was a lot better - it only span up in second, not third this time and I was seeing 120 on the main straight before Avon Rise (in the wet lol). The dampers seem to be working better although it could probably do with a thicker rear arb. Managed to keep a friend trying out an R8 V8 behind me for 3 laps, or rather pulled out a bit of a lead. She didn't have insurance though, but she is a quick driver ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |
