Don't just bolt all the cables together and cover them in tape you bodger, get an M8 double sided rubber bobbin and drill a hole to mount it, then bolt all the cables to the top. Vibration free, insulated and tidy.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I sell new and used welding equipment in the Hampshire area. I swear I saw some form of junction box thing on CBS, will have a look later on. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Double sided rubber bobbin, google is your friend, search under anti vibration mounts. Get a 25mm diameter one.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. Get hold of some heat shrink sleeving too, the adhesive on electrical tape is attacked by oils and grease and heat makes it unstick too. Look for Raychem stuff, its the dogs danglies.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I sell new and used welding equipment in the Hampshire area. So I guess something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Anti-Vibration-Mount-Rubber-Bobbin-Mounting-M8-30x25mm-/290905361238?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43bb4f8b56 Then I can just drill a hole somewhere in the car, tap and die out the hole, mount that, and bolt the lives to that? Seems a bit of a mission And will that be ok to put lives to and bolt it to the chassis ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Yes. You probably have an M8 threaded hole already on that gearbox mount And yes, there is no metal between the two threaded parts, so it is electrically isolated. I run the same thing on mine. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I sell new and used welding equipment in the Hampshire area. daveyboy wrote: Buy two and cut one in half if you don't believe me. This forum needs a facepalm smiley. Yeah I believe you, but I would of thought that the M8 bolt there would go all the way through as one. It just looks like the mount above on Geoffs car, with a rubber casing And to be fair, the 2 hours sleep I got last night has left me somewhat clueless today, and its not exactly a mount specifically designed for what I want it to do, its just a mount ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Rubber mounts are exactly what they say on the tin, and it's tailor made for mounting electrics you want isolated. That's why fuel pumps come mounted on bobbins as they vibrate like hell and transfer noise into the cabin, but they also come with an earthing wire as the rubber mounts won't pass current.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. Have booked myself on a trackday at Rockingham next month for a shakedown before Pugfest and need to get the car sorted out sharpish really. The trackday itself is a taster session. 20 minutes in the morning, and if you like it, you can book to do the afternoon session. My plan is to use the morning blast to make sure its ok, then book the full afternoon. Right, start of some progress. Finished off my battery relocation (Eddy_gti6 will be shocked) Not convinced on the earth, so will probably try and get something better sorted. Using the bobbin mount as Jim suggested Need to get some heatshrink, so just electrical tape for now. I am very pleased to report that it all worked fine (first use of the battery since I bought it about a year ago) Used the jump pack to start it. Need to get it properly charged up and make sure it can start the car on its own. Will take the jump pack round with me until I trust it though Bolted my cut down ECU box to the wing, and relocated the dual function relay (as I lost the pin thing on back of ECU box) Didnt really know what to do with my oil catch tank as it used to be bolted to the battery box. I decided to make this for the time being. Its a bit pikey, but on the plus side its 700g lighter Bit more room in the engine bay now with battery and ABS gone. Oh and now Eddiebeano has got rid of his, I can put my red tow stickers on. Still need to fit my red TRS tow strap. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Question..I have removed this negative battery terminal and it earthed to top of gearbox and wing. Now, I have the battery earthed in its new location, but do I need to now run an earth cable from gearbox to wing? ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Manged to remove the last of the brake pipes today too. The ABS sensors can f**king do one though. No idea how you get them out And another question for those of you in the know. I bought a bias valve from Jorg on here, already had adaptor fittings in (I hear wilwood use funny ones) but I dont think I need them? I bought the pipe and fittings from what Owain bought (in fact, im copying his whole setup for the brake stuff) and the ends for the pipe, seem to go straight into the valve As I bought it With pipe and fitting mocked into place Thoughts? ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

They's a small gap with bolt hole in it where you can put your trs, for some reason I had 2 tow bars on the front of mine.If also got rid of the spare wheel and cage as I carry no jack or wheel brace so they really no point Carl did the relocation bits for me but I swear we earth on to the battery plate and in the car chipped away at the floor plan and bolted to that, he also ran a postive through the fuse box. ________________________________________ Rallye build: 11 November 1998 - a WednesdayTeam rallye, built for track ----Click this if you like rallyes Rallye dead Secret Team Astor... |

You have to smash the sensors out form the hubs. A lot of effort for a couple of grams. You might want to get rid of the inertia switch before you run the curbs at Rockingham. If its anything like the S16 you just cut and connect the two wires. |

Mate you need to earth the engine/box to the chassis. i would just either leave that cable on or make a new one.As for your bias valve that setup should be fine without the origional ends that came with the valve. Cars coming on well there mate ________________________________________ Clicky: [url =http://www.306gti6.com]click here[/url] remove the space between [url & = |

Bit more done on the car, getting there slowly.Firstly cut off the negative battery terminal and wire, to create an earth lead from gearbox to chassis rail. Went to fit it and on gearbox end, the bolt went tight before it was fully done up, then one turn later it snapped the head off it So now I need to find a way of earthing the gearbox to the car. Joys! Recruited my mate to help me with the new brake lines (I say help, I mean he did it for me) Passenger side front Drivers side front MC, front outlet to T piece for the front brakes, rear outlet to the rear T piece Front T piece Line ran down to bulkhead to bring out in passenger footwell. Into the car here Will probably look at getting some pipe padding just to make sure in case it gets kicked etc. And to the bias valve Thats as far as we got, will hopefully get it finished this week Also made a start on fitting the polycarb windows. removed the old glass and rubber seals. Drilled holes randomly to rivet to (didnt care much as I have the black border sticker to go on, and will paint the rivet heads black). It seemed it eas going to be a pain in the arse to try and line up hole with holes cut in polycarb, so decided to just hold window in place, drill one hole, then rivet and go from there. Worked fine except I had to rivet to the inner part (which is recessed back from where the window sits) so as a result, it pulls the window in a bit and is not flat. Its a track car though, and dont care for imperfections such as that Just need to fit the border sticker, and use some clear bathroom sealant or something to make it water tight. More on this in the week if the rain f**ks off ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

More progress today, not much more to go now Got the brake lines finished but hit some problems with the bleeding. One rear caliper is missing the bleed nipple (not sure how..) and one of the little sleeved joints connecting to the bias valve has a damaged thread so its leaking. Need to get a new caliper fitted and a new joint and hopefully will bleed up with no more issues or leaks. Will get them all clipped in when its confirmed as finished. Got the rest of the windows out and the polycarbs fitted. Used silicon sealant round the rear windows to waterproof them and stop wind noise Glass out. Didnt know how to remove the green clip so I cut it off Motor, runners and other gubbins removed. Fitted in place Riveted in and borders on (these are a c**t to do!! And as I stuck it over the rivets, still need to cut away border and sort it out. Sorted out the battery earth as wasnt happy with just the self tapper. So drilled a hole, and cleaned up the surfaces with wire brush (including underside, underseal removed etc) and bolted the earth on. Also fitted the earth from gearbox to wing, and cleaned up all the contacts the same way. Just over 9kg of crap removed from the car. Was nearly 2.5kg for rear window change and forgot to weigh the front Got to be another 20kg loss including battery change etc. Need to get it weighed again really. Bought some new disc protectors to fit to the new beam. New vs old These are being painted so pics up when done. Hopefully pick up the new beam in the week, So just need to fix brakes issues, fit beam and get an MOT, then its all ready for Rockingham Also when I had done with stuff today, decided to give the engine bay a bit of a cleanup, so heres some pic whorage.. Just noticed I need to cable tie my catch tank back on. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |
