Eddy: the windows are the ones you had made, I bought them from a member on here.In regards to the disc protectors, I thought I probably needed them. I've got rid of things I know I can get rid of, wasn't sure about those but will probably keep them now they have been painted ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Few more little bits done on Sunday, not much, mainly just tidying things up.Started the cleanup of the spare rear brakes to fit to new beam. Quick degrease and going over with wire brush. Same done to these, then left in some deox gel. Also cut away some more metal out the door (bottom half) and fitted my door cards back on. Then cleaned up all the s**t and tools out the car. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Right then with Rockingham rapidly approaching and the car not being road worthy, let alone track worthy I really need to pull my finger out.Gave up on trying to get the torsion bars out the donor beam, so took it to Carl to finish and rebuild with new parts. Picked this up the other day. Due to lack of time with other commitments etc, I dont have time to clean it up which is annoying me, but will worry about getting it working first, then worry about making it look nice So then, time to get my current beam off. To get the car on stands and brake lines disconnected took a few minutes then ran into a few issues (as normal..) Bleed nipple on offside rear caliper is missing so need to replace. Brake line fitting at caliper end is half rounded. Handbrake cables are seized in and both brake disc torx screws are rounded too. Not looking good. Onto the next problem... When trying to remove the wheel bearing/hub thing from the stub axle, they were properly seized on and broke in an attempt to change that. So I dont really want to have to try and reuse the ones on my current beam. I got some quotes of around £55 ex vat, and just cant afford it at the minute, but want the car back. I had a look on ebay today and found some for a much lower price, claiming to be genuine etc. The picture is a generic one, and the car info for fitting compatibility is woeful at best but I took a punt as they were cheap 2 questions: - They are called wheel bearing kits, will this come with the hub thing? Are they two separate parts? - Will they just fall apart within two minutes with them being so cheap? If they are going to be crap, can replace at a later date. Only need to get me through a few trackdays and limited road miles. Thoughts? ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

easy way to remove the rear hubs, use copper hammer or drift and whack the pin out of the arm, hub will fall on the floor, job done.cheap will be crap. unlikely you actually broke them unless you went at it with power tools or were an absolute animal. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Yeah I was told this after I had the first time I know they will be crap (unless they turn out to be actually genuine, doubtful I know) but wont new cheap ones be better than I have no idea where from and old ones? ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

I think the point when the metal balls went flying out was when I realised they were broken At the time I just wanted them off as the plan was to just buy new ones. This was before my finances went down the s**tter ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

I dont recall a whirring sound you get from dead bearings. But then I dont hear a lot over the rattles and exhaust noise ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Had a bit of time at the weekend, so a bit more progress.Managed to get the current beam off on friday night so I could start the strip down to raid a few bits I needed, then start building up the new one. I soon decided that my week had been busy enough, and was long overdue a few beers Started a fresh on saturday with beam off and ready to go. Few pics during the work, and still pleased that it was all pretty straight forward and didnt come across any issues :shock And back on the car, job done. Just need to get the new bearings/hubs on, brakes on etc. Then get the brakes bled up, MOT and TAX then its ready to roll. Always feel more positive on the rebuild ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Right, so the bearing I bought from ebay store, are just bearings. No the one piece hub and bearing Spoke to my parts guys and ordered some more. Hopefully there when I get home as car needs to be finished tonight really. Fingers crossed all goes well, as have an MOT friday morning, and Rockingham next thursday. Slightly worried ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Got my new hubs/bearing yesterday so could continue building the car back up. They seem slightly different with a wider ABS ring, but that shouldnt matter (ABS removed anyway) and the new ones are no wider over all. Fitted them to the car and was catching on end of the trailing arm, turns out was missing the spacers, so had to remove them from the old beam. Used a hammer and a drift to punch out the stub axles. Wasnt too hard, but the bits that cover the bearings fell out, so probably a good job I bought new ones. All fitted up. Fitted the caliper to the nearside, and then on the offside caliper, snapped the bleed nipple, f**king thing Now on the hunt for a new caliper, and MOT tomorrow morning. Not looking good ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

More fun and games...Thursday lunch made the journey over to Leicester to pick up another rear caliper (cheers Carl) so could get the braking system finished and bled up. All went fairly smoothly with making new pipes and getting the caliper fitted. Checked all joins and despite my worries about the pipe connectors into the T pieces being too long, seem to have no leaks, and pedal holds pressure. Looking good, so continued on with the bleeding. All seems to be ok, just need to adjust up my handbrake etc. As it was p**sing it down, no photos of work done etc, but it stopped just before we finished, typical! Removed the axle stand and lowered the jack, and car stays put, wtf? Seems my new suspension setup is pretty stiff Couple of the new ride height, rear has been lowered to compensate for the lack of weight in the car. Think the front needs to come down slightly too, but will test that over next few weeks. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

With that done, just needed the final checks doing then off for the MOT, or not if the case may be.Got in the car this morning, and wouldnt start Showed all the signs of a dead/dying battery. Power to clocks etc, seemingly power to the fuel pump, but rather than the normal whining noise, just made some grumbling noises. Then when you turn the key, starter attempts to turn, then gives up. Turn the key back and dials go round etc. Usually the sign of not enough cranking amps to start, or bad earth. All earths have recently been cleaned up, or new ones, and the battery is pretty new too. Going on the lines of it being dead, tried to jump start it from a jump pack, and from my diesel. No luck here (although probably could of left the diesel running a bit longer, but usually, if running from another car, will start pretty much straight away. I then checked all earth, wires, double function relay, cut off switch etc etc, all the things I know that could cause the issue and didnt see any faults with any of them. Gave up at this point, so thought I would ring the AA. I might as well, I pay for it every month after all He came out, I told him what I had already done, and he thought it would be a battery issue. He got a large battery from his van, and put my cables to his battery, and fired straight up. So it seems I have a slightly dodgey battery, wonderful. Will check out more of this tonight, and hopefully be ready to go for an MOT tomorrow instead. Fingers crossed ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Back end is a bit low for any sort or rough track / fast road... try going over a kerb / rumble strip with that! Also, you've got the rate the wrong way round, back is lower than the front! Other than that, car looks great. Bet you can't wait to get back on track! It has passed mate, so all good Few pics from the test. Good job I didnt lower the front before MOT, bit close on the brake tester.. jammapic wrote: Back end is a bit low for any sort or rough track / fast road... try going over a kerb / rumble strip with that! JP I think it should be ok, as it seems stiff enough. I had it dropped 30mm from standard before, and was too high, now should be 40mm lower than standard, but any issues I will get it adjusted. Yup, know what you mean and I said before, the front still needs to come down slightly. Would the handling be better with a bit of rake, or sitting flat? Also, thanks for the comments and cant wait to get back out on track. Little shakedown on thursday, and hopefully get a few proper full days this summer. Also James, yes the bars and arb are great, but I get a load of clunks from the rear on anything other than smooth road surface. Is this what you get? coskev wrote: Looking good Thanks Kev ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |
