My question was more about whether the new nuts and bolts will be ok, or is the shorter shank length going to be a problem? ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Yeah maybe I shouldn't half-arsed reply whilst on the phone As long as the nut will go on as far as it needs, the shank size isn't really a concern. As Jim says though the old ones should also have the strength on the top, wouldn't surprise me if they need to be 10.9 though as most of the suspension components are. "They were cheap enough" Worrying? ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

What I am looking to do when I reassemble a beam is to clean the bolt threads and just buy new fine pitched nylocs from Peugeot or eBay. Cheaper than buying new bolts too which are otherwise fine. Yours would probably clean up with a brush. I was a loser recently and put some of those bolts in a vice and cleaned the heads up nice and shiny.________________________________________ |

They are effectively pinch bolts so although they have a bit to do in tension the main load is in shear, and I'd think you'd get away with it but yeah, if it were me I'd be swapping like for like.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I know this is where it normally has the figure for tensile strength. 8.8, 12.9 etc. ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

My mate has a kit for cleaning up threads, will try using that and buying new nuts.Like you say, better to be safe with it being suspension parts. Cheers ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

It has indeed, but its not always been a track car Yeah its seen a few tracks, airfield days, Rockingham, Donington. I have been a bit s**t with it though, spent all my money making it, rather than using it. This year its going on a few days, I dont care if it bankrupts me ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Cheers Wire wheel in a grinder and a vice for holding the bolt works good for me. Or a wire wheel on a bench grinder is good, just watch you fingers and wear eye protection. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies.
