Pretty much sure the little bracket on the left hand side of this is for the brake compensator valve.

I dont need this so attacked it with the angle grinder.

I will have to try that Deox-C.

I've been doing much the same preparing a 309 beam. Although I put it on hold after cleaning up a disc protector with a wire knot wheel on my angle grinder held between my patented feet-vice. I must have caught an edge badly as it flung the protector to the back of the shed and the grinder into my leg. Luckily it was the body of the grinder that hit me.

This gel sounds like a safe choice.

There are 2 types Deox-C and Deox Gel, the Deox-C comes as a powder and you mix it with water, this works the better of the 2 but if its something too large to soak in the solution you will have to use the gel.

    Lucky escape Dan Shock

And yeah I bought some Deox-C powder and Deox-C gel. Anything that is small enough to be submerged in water use the powder solution, if its not, used the gel. The gel will also be handy cleaning up under the car/boot floor area Smile

I think I'll go for the powder. Got a small cat trespass issue so this may eradicate more than rust if I leave something outside soaking in a bowl.

It also makes quite a big difference if you use warm water, just make sure you get rid of any loose rust then leave it to soak. I ordered all mine from Bilt Hamber direct, along with a load of their Etchweld primer which is also pretty good.

Yeah I used warm water too, but from the looks of the guide sheet that came with it, just helps with dissolving the powder in the first place?

Warm water will become cold in an hour, it's just nicer to work with initially, especially this time of year.

I did mine all inside the house and left them near a radiator, doesn't make a world of difference but every little helps.

    Question guys..

The bolts that go through the brackets shown above were pretty corroded, and the nuts seemed fubar'd. I went to buy a couple of new ones today and the place I tried to buy them from couldnt get them to fit properly and said it was probably due to the thread being slightly damaged.

Bought some new bolts and nuts from them, but they have a shorter shank on them, will this be a problem?

They were cheap enough so worth the punt, but want to check if they will be ok.

    Corroded thread on original bolt

    Old vs new

Also, does anyone know what tensile strength the original ones should be? The new ones are 8.8

    Cheers

The new nuts wouldn't fit because the thread pitch is different.

    Laugh

    Yeah I know that.

Should of mentioned, I didnt buy the other nuts, but they measured the thread pitch of the bolt I gave them and tried a nut with the same pitch. It didnt fit, so they sold me the pictured nuts and bolts instead.
