Yeh I know, that's what I was so mad about, I'd decided to change from a 136 to a 137 tooth timing belt kit, my problem was that the bolt that goes through the middle of the 136 tooth tensioner is a weird jobbie that won't fit through the 137 tooth tensioner, I didn't know the spec of the proper bolt so I had to get it from the stealer. He agreed with me when I told him he should wear a mask when robbing people!!!!!

Cool

Plenty of room from the door bars should do.
Somewhere in the middle perhaps Whistle

Been buying a few things recently.
This turned up today from Merlin Motorsport

I've done a bit of research & for motorsport use IF you fit an oil catch tank it MUST be a minimum 2 litres in size.
This Mocal one is beautiffly put together, a bit pricey at £120 delivered mind but compared to everything else on the Market it's streets ahead!

Cool

First job for today was to fit the power steering pump.
Best tip is fit the brackets to the sump first! There is just not enough room to get the spanner in to the two middle nuts with the pump in place.

Next up was to fit the can shaft oil seal on the inlet cam. I put a light smear of rtv sealant around the outside diameter of the seal & a little tiny bit oil on the seal lip. I found that the hub nut socket I've got is the perfect size to push the seal in with, a few taps with my nylon mallet & it was in.
I then held the inlet cam in place with the tab from the pulley & a 6pm drill shank.
Coz I'm really anal about damaging the valves I'd only fitted one cam shaft, my theory was that I could fit the second cam roughly in the correct position, which should prevent valve to valve contact. Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of fannying about but I'm happy it worked.

After fitting the second cam seal I fitted both pulleys & fitted the cam belt. I've got a 137 tooth cam belt & tensioner. What an easy job it is, no seriously, I've heard it can be a bit of a ballache getting the tension right with 136 tooth kits, with the 137 tooth tensioner you just turn it clockwise with an allen key until the pointer points to a groove in the mount, then tighten up the central bolt & it's done!

Part washer & a toothbrush cleaned up the cambelt cover nicely.
Here we go, one low compression engine ready to go!

Think I'll have a look at fitting the inlet manifold tomorrow.

Cool

Nice work Wayne Thumbs up ,that bolt holding the power steering pump on is seriously long LOL , took me ages to fit mine as I left my cordless impact gun in work Doh and the nuts are hard to get to,

Interesting that your using the 137 tooth kit, I used one on mine for two years with no problems whatsoever, and as you say they are a piece of p*ss to tension, I was then swayed by everyone saying that the metal tensioner was better so I went back to the 136 tooth kit, will be interesting to see how you get on as i would prefer to fit the 137 tooth kit due to its simplicity Smile

Dave, my cordless impact wrench saved the dayLaugh my ass off

Rich, cheers, looks like I'm getting there at last, still nowhere near finished yet thoughDoh

A problem I did encounter today is that I've removed the STD oil to water cooler in favour of a proper oil to air cooler, the mocal sandwich plate came with an extention tube in the middle, female m20 thread at one end & male m20 thread at the other. As I have removed the original oil cooler the male thread on the block is not there anymore & I'm left with a female thread, so the sandwich plate won't fit.
I've been searching tinternet all night & I can't find a male to male extension tube for a sandwich plate anywhere so I've been looking for some m20 threaded tube either, I only need a piece about 40mm long.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to come across this, what have others done to get around this?

Cool

Edit, this is the extension tube from inside the STD cooler, male at each end, it's too long for the sandwich plate though..

This is similar to what came with the sandwich plate, male one end & female the other.....

Cool
