im running a standard servo pedal box now with a 406 m/c with a bias valve. was a good setup until at Llandow yesterday was flat out in forth coming towards the back chicanne and the pedal went to the floor, no brakes!! i managed to drop it down a gear scrub some speed and hang onto it! was certainly an interesting experiance that i hope doesnt happen again. on further inspection turns out the tilton bias valve was faulty!! im pretty luckly i managed to get away with it but could of been very nasty.

but that size is normally the recomended.

Crikey!

Close call, good to hear you held on to it though. Would hate to hear you had stacked it after all the work!

What was the reason for ditching the separate m/c's? Simply for servo assisted braking?

Ninja yeah he lifted off to let me come by, but still pulled a good amount on him in 4 corners.

took the Tilton bias valve back to merlins today, they wouldnt give me a direct replacement but are sending it off to be repaired. bloody hope it doesnt happen again.

How did it fail in a manner that lost the brakes completely?? did it p*ss fluid everywere.

Have to say that is one of My biggest nightmares when on the track.

pedal just went straight to the floor, my inital thought was the m/c failed, after i managed to get around the corner and pulled into the pit lane i noticed brake fluid down around the bulkhead exhaust tunnel area. my biggest worry as i didnt know where it was coming from was brake fluid dropping onto the boiling hot manifold. i turned it off as soon as i got into the paddock and had a look under the bonnet, was all fine underthere so i checked the fittings for tightness onto the bias valve, these were all ok so i pressed the pedal down by hand and you could see it p*ssing out where the adjuster goes into the valve itself.

christ on a bike, that's really bad.
Was going to buy a triton one when I lost faith my cheapo valve few months ago.Went for a wilwood one instead.

Will be interesting to see what the story is when it comes back.

Ash where have you mounted the fuel filter as I can't see it in your pics?

Also, do you know what grade the filter is? Torques.co.uk have 30 and 100 Micron filters, unsure which would be best

a new tilton bias valve turned up under warranty, they didnt say what was wrong with the old one Hmm.
anyway i fitted that this evening, moved it from the dash down to near the gearstick area, and made a bracket up to support it there.

i also ordered 2x new toyo R888's but they were out of stock until august! but tweeks offered me Yoko ao48's for a discounted price so they turned up yesterday and swapped them over and balanced them earlier. done a couple of miles in it aswell this evening as it got dumped off the trailer into the workshop when the brakes failed at llandow and this was the first time its moved since... just in time for castle combe this saturday Ninja

How's the handling?.. camber looks to be under control nicely in that photo.

Bit of an arse from Tilton not saying what was wrong with the other bias valve. It's a pretty serious issue!

yeah i know!

handling seems better, still not overly pleased with it, even following my brother in his 306 i struggled to keep my lines as tight as him. got a bit more fettling to do with it still, going to soften up my dampers abit more also.

im going to be changing the fuel system abit, the fuel lines aren't PTFE lined so it smells of fuel abit which gives you a headache when driving it all day, and as ive got a 4 hour round trip to pugfest i didnt really fancy that so just ordered...

4x -6 fittings these are proper compression fittings to go on steel pipe, abit of luck we keep 2M lengths of 8mm steel pipe at work which should be just the trick. will be down 4 metres by tomorrow evening...

30 micron fuel filter,

4x -6 straight fittings to go from the compression fittings to braided flexi on the engine side and tank side

2x -6 bulkhead fittings to make a good job of going through the floor

and finally a proper cradle to mount the Bosch 044 fuel pump, its to noisey to be inside the car so its going under the boot floor somwhere

should have it all by the weekend as ive got access to a pit and ramp which i plan to make the most of Smile

new Yoko AO48's fitted on the front, oil filter, oil changed and managed to track down a small misfire at 2k to a dodgy HT lead so whipped over to halfords and picked up a new set of vauxhall corsa 1.6 16v ht leads so drives lovely again at low revs.

All set for the charity trackday next saturday at castle combeSmile Smile
