Had another day at home today, so braved the light drizzle to get the car at least back up and running so I could get it back in the garage. I sanded down the dash edges so they weren't quite so razor-sharp, and back in it went.

When looking for a way of securing your big flappy corner, consider the wall-mounted tool holder from the shed. With the clips removed, it can be conveniently bent into shape and self-tappered into the necessary places.

That'll do for now. Whilst I was there, I decided to fit the snap-off steering boss I'd bought from cjm_harris some time ago, and had (as is becoming the norm) never gotten around to fitting. Some fiddling later:

I was determined to get this all finished up today, but the weather's just too tempramental. Therefore time to pack up tools and give it up for the day. The car starts, has been topped up with coolant and nothing's yet leaking, so like this it shall stay for now:

Boooooooo weather booooooo.

EDIT: Typically, whilst waiting for the forum to come back up the cloud has all buggered off and it's now sunny. Oh well.

Mine looked like yours, all shiny and white inside till I started seam-welding it, now it looks like its been stolen by 14 year old scrotes, joy-ridden then torched LOL

Good progress though, keep up the good work Smile

It's good innit Mat? Looks an awful like the old one, and they even set up random downtime so it doesn't feel too different.

Glad to hear I have an international audience for my pointless ramblings Yes

Time to sort that fan out. The idea is sound, just needs some work. So, first up - mount the extractor fan to the bulkhead with a couple of self-tappers, in a position where a short piece of hose will reach the air inlet.

Once that's all good, put some small holes in the hose (making sure a piece of wire will be trapped) and attach to the grille thingy with cable ties.

Then combine the two:

Right, nice. Next up, fashion a bracket from an old metal thing that used to hold up the barcode scanner in an old Spar shop, and a bracket from the loft, where that crazy guy who used to live in your house built a massive train track. These are particularly specific requirements, don't be tempted to think that just any old bit of bracket will do.

A few more cable ties later (and a plastic insert in the end of the hose to stop it collapsing, and job's a goodun.

Tested this out, works an absolute treat Yes

New sunstrip to impress the chavs, and to allow me to actually see when it's sunny:

I also fitted some little Pop-It vents into the rear windows to actually allow air to flow through the car rather than just getting all hot like, which meant very carefully drilling an 83mm hole in the windows and sanding them down.

Forgot to take a picture of them fitted, you can kinda see them in the one below.

I had a couple of broken rubstrips down one side, so took those off and replaced them with some new ones I'd bought from Pellowe, which were damaged in a slightly different way to mine, so they're still a kind of improvement.

Test drive for the first time in a while, and it's all good. Would love to stay and chat, but I have a stag do to attend.

Laters.

Heh, I'm ashamed to say so yes. Was looking at stripping some weight from the tailgate at some point but hadn't thought that much into it yet.

Plus the rear is more than light enough as it is until I sort the front out Wink

It's only clean on the sides where I was refitting the rubstrips, the roof still looks like it was recovered from some kind of swamp accident. Advantages of a grey car, dirt barely shows, especially in photos. In the flesh, it's a little filthbag. Hopefully get it clean this week Yes

Don't know I'm afraid, he took the actual tracks with him when his wife understandably divorced him, leaving me with nothing but a vast array of woodwork.

^^Yeah, but at the end of it, you'll have a unique, hand-crafted, broken french hatchback.
