Cheers guys! Few hours left yet to get it to the MOT station. Borrowing a mk3 golf 16v next week until the rallye is done. Just got to tidy it and fix any issues (coolant etc).

As someone has asked me what they need for this conversion I thought i'd post the reply on the thread as well:

You need:
D8 Engine (194BHp pre 99)
Gearbox
Cable shifter + cables
205 BE3 clutch cable
keep your engine loom as well as the 406 engine loom
406 ECU + immobiliser (probably best to get it unlocked so no immobiliser - know a guy who can do that too)
Driveshafts - 306 outer, 406 inner, get a spline to join them. ABS then works.
Probably a high pressure side pipe for the PAS.
5 speed PAS ram so you can turn right.
406 exhaust downpipe
406 rad = cut down slam panel, or VR6/407 rad as they're shorter.

Top engine mount - some available on ebay, or chop/weld in the 406 one. Using the 406 one means less subframe work, but removes the normal crossmember and engine sits about 3" further forward.
Good engine mounts to stop the driveshafts hitting the subframe.
Inlet manifold gasket - worth taking it off to see if the cam carriers are leaking as that can destroy the coilpack. Also needed for a plug change.
New clutch can be had as an exchange (but no exchange if you see) from Peugeot for about

If you find the right car and don't need the replacement belts etc then yes its do-able. George has done it for about a grand before.

Mine should be good for a fair bit of time now mind and its easier to do before chucking it in Smile

Been driving it about the yard this morning. First gear seems fairly pointless tbh the way it trundles off in second, although i've yet to try more than ½ throttle.

Might need to sort the water system out, but then it might just have a tad of an airlock. Gearbox oil and PAS fluid need to go in and the front bumper needs to be secured on properly. Clutch needs a bit of fettling too, but that can wait until after the MOT and alignment.

Fooking freaky being able to turn right properly - thought something had broken. Really span me out for a few seconds Laugh my ass off

All fluids in, bumper back on and fan fettled into position. Leaving it running for a bit to see what happens with the coolant etc etc.

Now have booted it a bit in second and its quite quick to say the least - I run out of room very fast LOL

Eh? Whats wrong with them?

Apart from the crappy adjuster thingy and a sticking hand brake cable?

just that LOL means they don't do any work at all, not just very little, surprising how much effect they have on the balance of a vehicle Smile

Meh, the fronts are more than up to the challenge Razz

Anyhoo MOT time tomorrow 9am. Getting the tracking done just before so it brake tests ok. Taking it to Peugeot Tewkesbury for the test just to amuse myself.

Had it up to temp but its still got an airlock as the heater is cool. Rad was nice and warm though and it wouldn't get over 90 degrees on a fast idle with the bonnet closed. Was hoping to see the fan kick in but it wouldn't get hot enough on idle today.

Tiny bit of vibration on WOT at about 2-3k rpm, but thats probably the engine stopping on the master cylinder / rad / subframe LOL
