just a thought Adam, how were you checking it?

with the ECU unplugged from the TDC sensor plug to earth? I dont think you'll get a circuit that was as its inside the ECU that the earth circuit is made AFAIK.

need to check from TDC pin 3 to ecu pin 24 I think, even though the diagram shows it as being connected outside Doh

Ok i'll plug it in and check tomorrow. Pin 24 is an earth anyway isn't it? Obviously the 406's ecu was plugged in earlier when I tested that.

yeah it is, I think its one continuous black cable from the crank sensor plug to the ecu.

okey dokey. Anything else I should check whilst i'm at it? I'm going to bung the crank sensor back in, reconnect the lambda and then try the immobiliser.

When thats failed I shall probably give it a wash with my tears of unhappiness.

Been looking into it again - crank sensor shield earth is fine and changing over the immobilisers makes no odds either. There is power to both coilpack and injectors, but no signal. The wiring to them is all fine. Looking like the ECU is blown somehow.

Really wierd!

Is it unlocked / have an immobiliser?

I'm borrowing a friend's unlocked ECU on tuesday to try it. I'm also wondering if its not 2x buggered double relays somehow...

doubt it, as they work fine if you swap them over don't they Hmm

I had fun ripping apart a 306 earlier, even attacked it with a grinder Devil

Nope, wasn't the coilpack (unless the one we tried was no good too) and George hadn't had time to get the unlocked ECU so no go there either. His 205 CTi and new V6 are now in my unit so hes back tomorrow - no way was that engine/box/shafts/pedalbox coming out of the van with only 2 people to lift it.LOL

Had a thought which i'm going to try out in a bit...

Got fuel, but no spark.

Been mucking about with it a tad more and the plugs are nice and fuelly. That'll do until more spares turn up tomorrow

Whats so shocking about that?

Farking cars are doing my head in - the 406 broke down 5 miles from work so i've had to walk back and get another battery to get it back. (dead mobile as well). Angry

Lush sunny day though Smile

I thought we had nada LOL though couldnt check properly with a dead probe Doh

If you have fuel you should have earth pulse for the coilpack too, if the ECU is not deid.

Does the Fuel Pump work now?

what died on the 406? Alternator?

Yeah alternator on the 406 - looks the same as the 306 one. If its not its going on there anyway. Big hammer and an angle grinder time Angry

Fuel pump doesn't work, no idea on the earth pulse - how do I find that out? When I try to start it all of the 'signal' earth wires to the coilpack are always earthed all the time. Thats what the multimeter says, but no idea how good that is.

either by taking the fuel rail and seeing if fuel squirts out, which is a PIT on this engine, a power probe on the injector to ecu wire, or a thing called a "noid Light" which you plug into the injector wiring plug, it flashes when it sees the signal.

not sure what else would work fast enough to show it.

Alternator might have been that crunchy noise Doh

Alternator was that crunchy noise - bearings are fooked along with the rest of it. PAS pump and the tensioners are fine.

The plugs on the front bank were all smelling and wet with petrol after i'd turned if over for about 30secs. I'm afraid I don't have a power probe!

Anyway George is back tomorrow with the unlocked ECU, relays, coilpack etc etc. Theres a spare V6 in the unit now as well - might as well chuck it in the boot Shifty
