And from the underside, ok it's not mega low but it's level with the top of the exhaust tunnel and that's where I wanted it.

What are the slicks from, Clio cup?

Just worked out why I thought you had a different one!

Still aiming for the DMN series?

Not sure on the slicks, probably, I got them from touring car spares an age ago. I'd like to ho DMN but I'm on such a shoestring budget for now that just doing the stuff I can do without it costing me any money (metalwork and paint as it doesn't cost me much but time) is all I can really do till the business is doing well again. I reckon I've another 12 months of austerity measures to live with, then we'll se what the future holds.
If I can get all the fabrication done, then get the shell into paint at least it won't deteriorate bad while I concentrate on other things.

Yeah it's a balancing act at times, just red a bit more and I must have seen the red one early on.

The DMN is a good series albeit very clicky! They didn't like it much when we could challenge for overall honours, as you probably know, the guys that write the rules are doing the winning!

First round for them next week I think?

Yeah, I heard as much. I'd be happy just to be out on track at the moment though, I wouldn't be overly fussed about where I was on the grid. To begin with Wink

Yeah you'll enjoy it!

We thoroughly enjoyed the season we did, we had a spaceframed car which put us in class A, we had 230bhp and everyone else had 5-600bhp lol, we went to put a turbo on the car at the end of that year to give the next little jump so they banned turbos on space frames. Then we went to build a new car, space framed again but with better suspension, 17's, 2.3 duratec etc and then they banned space frames all together, luckily we hadn't got too far with that.
So we took a year out and bought one of the new SEAT cup cars at the end of their first season, first they were going to ban that because of paddle shift and then they banned it all together a week before the first round as it had a complete carbon under tray all the way through, another new rule that was bought in!

We were disliked for being too competitive!

I like the variety that the series brings though, it was such good fun the year we were there!

The year you guys were there was very good racing, partly because your Dad was keeping the front-runners honest! I remember the rule change saga well - I was looking at ex-National / Outlaw hot rod chassis and YB engines.

That's an old rule, floor, sills roof tunnel, boot floor all must be tin. It is a saloon car championship after all. All exterior panels, doors, bootlid etc can be composite though. But yes, they don't like outsiders coming in and doing well.

Fair play for doing so much damage to a car just to get a fuel tank in LOL

Hope you're going to tidy it all up, grind some welds back and paint it all up nice.

That's the spirit, then in ten years time you can do a thread about restoring it like it's an old Transit Yes

Not likely, this is getting some serious rust treatment. I'm toying with the idea of stripping it and dipping it. But there's nowhere local with a facility like that.

Would there be anything left when it came up? I'd genuinely worry about mine coming out with no underside at all.

Yeah plenty, down to operator skill to judge how long to leave it in the acid tank before bringing it up though. I'm pretty sure there's a good place up in Brum.

Ah, I see. Plus Birmingham is famous for being close to Southampton, so not even much effort on your part. Surprised you haven't done it already really.

I hope you get to be there to watch, I bet its satisfying.

I don't think they let you, from what I've seen it's an industrial process and they normally put a few dents in the car, so I expect they wouldn't welcome an anxious owner hovering around in the background LOL

Boo, no-one's any fun anymore. Would be very interested to see how the car looked when it came out though, I have to head out now but if you could have your car dipped and primered by this evening when I get back that'd be really good, cheers.

Consider it done Thumbs up

EDIT: Fcuk that, it's £845.00 for the acid dip, you take the shell back, do whatever welding/repairing the shell needs, it's then £450.00 for a re-dip to prep it for electro-ferritic primer which is £1450.00 Blink

It's going to get the backyard spray job it deserves and that's that! Yes

Yeah, mate of mine had a Nova dipped, welded, leaded and then dip primered, it cost the best part of 4 grand.

If it was some cherished classic then yeah, I'd save up and do it. But it's a rubbish French shoe box, so no, I'd rather blow £3,000 on a holiday.
