It was agony, the worst thing is water does'nt seem to neutralise it or wash it off, you just have to keep splashing water at the affected areas and wait till the burning stops, nasty.Shock

Sounds like something I could really get into Hmm

Is there any advantage to running the lines inside the car rather than outside?

As Rick says, keeps them out of harms way, makes working on them/inspecting them easier. BUT, you must buy non permeable hose that is rated for use inside a cockpit. It's like a hard nylon tube inside the braiding and takes a different type of hose fitting with an olive. If you use the ordinary stainless braided nitrile rubber hose you will have a car that stinks of fuel and makes you feel sick as the rubber is semi permeable and lets out vapour.(Does'nt leak as such but very unpleasant in the crew compartment)

I probably would'nt bother on anything other than an out and out race car as the costs to do all this get a bit silly. Besides, once you have one line braided, you will end up doing them all!...£££ LOL

ive got braided fuel line inside my 205 atm, i bought my whole setup second hand but i don't think its meant for the inside as it smells a lot. in the process of either putting it to the outside or replacing the braided with the correct stuff.

There's special line's you have to use if your going to run it inside of the car. Can't remember what it is, PTFE lined maybe? It's more expensive though. I think you have to use it to meet the regs too.

I have used aluminium hard pipe for my fuel lines. You can bend it nice and easily with a little tube bender and its powder coated so it doesn't corrode. It doesn't let the 'smell' through either. For the flexi bits I used Nomex braided fuel hose, which is ace, but if I wasn't getting a discount, I wouldn't have used it, as its a little bit expensive!

8mm copper pipe also pretty good for fuel lines, can flare the ends also to stop any potential leaks

Probably something nasty in it that eats the copper away. I think the fuel rated hose is 600 series or something like that. It's the propper stuff anyway.

Yep, petrol will dissolve copper oxide (formed from the hydrogen/sulphur and oxidisers in the fuel), albeit pretty slowly.
Not so much of a worry for the copper pipe, but it can leave the deposits in the injectors which build up over time...

I had a few reasons for not getting Rob to make it, he needed a sample for the bend radius and he only sets up his bender when he has enough work to make it worth it. I can make the CC one fit easily enough myself. As for the gusset plates I got the triangular ones that strengthen up the door x-bars.

Right, progress report.

Made a little headway tonight on the sump baffle kit, space is really tight so I've had to revise my initial plan slightly (Make it up as I go along Wink ) This involved cutting the sides off the box and welding on some new ones that fitted the shape of the sump base a little better, this will allow me much more room for a nice free flowing trap door arrangement to bring oil to the pickup on righthanders. I have a plan for how to get it to work for lefthanders but you will have to wait and see that. Anyway, here are a few shots of my contraption.

The oil pump is screwed to the wooden baton to get it to sit at the right height more or less for the mock-up.

There is a protrusion on the oil pump body just in the wrong place that fouled the box, so I had to let in a corner piece.

Fitted much better after...

There is also a dogleg section that drops away on the sump floor, this created quite a gap in the corner of the box which could allow too much oil to escape away from the pickup under cornering, so I covered it up with the addition of this plate. It has a drain hole right in the corner so it won't hold any cruddy oil when the time comes to change it.

Still have to make dividers and gates etc. but it's coming along, what with that and this Accusump I think oil issues should be the least of my worries. Paranoid much? I think so! LOL

Lastly, here are the new rods, sure you've all seen them before but I think they are worth a second, third and fourth look Cool

They must be about 2/3 the weight of a standard rod and the finish is outstanding Smile

This is me resisting the urge to make a "rod on" joke.

I'm getting the distinct impression you're a little worried about oil starvation, would that be safe to say?

Very impressive Yes

Maybe a little, lets just call it an insurance policy on my costly engine Wink
