Full seam welding gives bugger all extra over stitch welding tbh (full brazed seams are nice if they fit well enough though), for the extra time and weight it's better to stitch and avoid as much heat/distortion in the chassis.
And if you are forest rallying and crack a weld from flex, then it stops at the end of the stitch, rather keep creeping down the weld.

But, if you do as Jim has and move around to keep the localised heat down, it'll be fine.

The other thing is I want to stop water getting into all the joints as now it's welded all the zinc coating is gone from the seams I've welded so if water gets into any open seams the rust will have a field day Smile

I'f I end up in a forest it'll only be because I have seriously misjudged a braking point. In that case a cracked chassis will probabaly be the least of my worries! LOL

F*ck em! There is a strict pecking order in my house, and new goodies must be lovingly fondled, salivated over, photographed and then put back in their boxes. Then, and only then is the furniture made available for the use of others LOL

Certainly was, I'm just glad I got given the advice to use Torques instead of Goodridge or Aeroquip. That has saved a fortune, and as all of it will be hidden in a closed box (regulations stipulate all fuel system components to be enclosed) it does'nt matter that the finish is'nt quite as good as the other two more expensive brands. Cool

Should hopefully have my new rods in the next week or so, so I can then get started on the engine build, I'm dying to hear this thing run.

That was the plan but I've pretty much run out of funding now as the contract I was working on ended early, this has left me a little way short of what I needed to get it finished. I can't afford to compete a full season anyway so I'll get it done when it's done and just pick up the odd round of DMN or Tin Tops here and there Smile

Yeah, I dare'nt risk running lean at 12.5-1 CR, and as I heard that the Walbro pumps are'nt that special when it comes to reliability I thought I'd get two. The only reason I went for Walbro at all is because I had been donated one already by a friend who had an unused one for his kit car, and as money was tight I figured get another one the same and I should be ok. I'll wire them up on separate switches so I can run one then the other to listen if they are still running. I also have the option to show fuel pressure with a warning if it drops below a presetable threshold on the Stack digi-dash I have. What with that, the AFR guage and my ears I should have advance warning of any fuelling problems.

Sounds sensible!

When you mentioned the fuel lines are going to be enclosed, what are you going to do for this?
The msa blue book only states that lines are protected and I believe that braided lines are classed as 'protected', but I could be wrong?

The braiding counts as metal enclosed or protected, but weirdly the pumps, filters and swirl pot need to be in a box, bit gutted really as there is £600 worth of cool bits that nobody will ever see once done Roll eyes

Ah I see.
Yes that is, indeed, a bummer!

Do you know where that is stated? Not that I don't believe you, I'm just curious Razz

Actually I don't but everyone with a car in DMN that I have spoken to all told me and theirs are all boxed in. Maybe I need to dig out the blue book or phone the MSA before I do any potentially uneccessary work?

You can run the hose through the car but not the pump/filters or tank..

I would check, you can view the book on the msa website if you can't find yours.

I had a brief look and couldn't find anything in the fuel systems part, unless it's stated somewhere else?

Edit: it's mentioned under the chassis/body section, 'driver compartment isolated from.....fuel system components'

Oh well

It's fair enough I suppose, if a union fails i don't really want 5 bar of fuel gushing out at me!
