I am goin for a full respray on mine inside and out, but looks like there not a lot of room to cover it all, and cant really paint the inside first as will get wrecked with the spatter

I used a really light coat of Weld-through Etch primer on the hard-to get to bits on Rich's before it went in.

Needs to be a really, really light 'dry' coat.

Depends which primer you're using as well of course.

Ah, tried that, it's shite LOL

You should scotchpad around the weld to get rid of the excess first anyway.

depends waht regs you're working to, I would always make them to MSA minimum then you can sell the car to whoever you want to when you get bored with it, increasing its value drastically, rather than just being a track car...

the main chassis rail really isn't that strong....

bit of 3mm plate, 120cm2, whatever shape that suits for the main 4 points, rears 60cm2 each. Smile

Because of the angle the photo is taken at you can't see how thick those plates really are. I checked today and they are actually 3mm thick and more than up to the job of stopping the cage punching through the floor in a crash which is all they are there for. More of a concern for me is that they have sent no passenger door bar, only one turret brace bar, and no dash bar!?

We are getting aggravated...Angry

how important is it to have the car completely stripped to fit the cage. I want/need to get the brake lines and power lines through the car before putting the cage in and would prefer to plumb them in and fill with fluid then not have to take them out to fit a cage.

i would fit the cage first Yes i left my brake lines in to start with but have ended up removing them anyway and started again completely from a blank shell inside. the brake piping needs to clear the cage and will only be in the way when fitting anyway, same with the electrics

What he said, cage will end up wherever it ends up, but pipes and electrics can easily be routed whichever way wou want. Does mean climbing around a load of scaffolding though!

Still waiting for bits to arrive, so today I set about removing all of the spot-welded in brackets left behind when you remove the rear seats. Found a few redundant brackets underneath the car which will be recieving the attention of a spot-weld drill...Also the headliner went in preparation for the cage. Floormats are surprisingly heavy!

Car now sounds very boomy with the headliner out but that's to be expected I guess. Ordered my LSD from Thieves who surprisingly gave me the best quote

Cage is progressing nicely, I decided to TIG it in the end as I felt it would be stronger and it looks much neater, pluss I won't have to worry abbout spatter going on the glass or setting fire to things around me.

Got the hoop footplates in, the hoop, A-pillar bars and roof bar all welded in now, tonight i will cut the holes in the floor by the A-pillars that will allow me to weld the top of the roof bar and also I will cut the holes in the bulkhead to allow fitment of the two turret brace bars.

So far the cage all fits beautifully and is not posing any problems at all to fit. But it still has a fair way to go so we will see if it stays that way.
