Well, it's arrived, and the fit looks excellent, very close to the shell all the way round and it doesnt look like there will be much need of cage to shell gusset plates but I will probably chuck a few on anyway as they look the part.

The drive back was interesting though with my instrument cluster taped to my steering column and no functioning indicators either!LOL

Anyway, heres a few pics to give you an idea of the fit, ignore the mess (I did'nt do it!)

That should keep me busy for a while...

Yeah but I can't see how I'll be able to drop the hoop down to weld the a pillar/roof bars?

Snap the tacks on the rear hoop off the main hoop, pull it out of the way, then do the same with the 2 main feet that they've put in under the hoop, and twist the whole cage downwards - you'll probably find you'll need to take the door cross out to get it to flex past the rear seat area, cause you have to squeeze the bottom of the hoop in, he-man style - then you should have *just* enough to weld the top of the main hoop.

edit: no front strut tubes/dash bar?

I expect I can get busy with a ratchet strap or something to pull the legs of the hoop together while I pull it forward at the the bottom. I just know I'm going to end up with something I can't get at! Shock LOL

Yeah, the ones on Rikky's were sprung in slightly anyway, so it wasn't too hard to get it that bit further - but had to push it out with a 2-ton panel press once the feet were back in to get it up to the bodyshell - didn't take much force, just easier to hold whilst it was tacked back in.

It is a bugger to get in there even so - you're nearly at 90* with the torch at the top.
Tin opener on the roof skin would be favorite....LOL

Possibly, but the bottom of the hoop overlaps the main chassis rail (Sill) which is very strong, the plate therefore does'nt need to be very big.

depends waht regs you're working to, I would always make them to MSA minimum then you can sell the car to whoever you want to when you get bored with it, increasing its value drastically, rather than just being a track car...

the main chassis rail really isn't that strong....

bit of 3mm plate, 120cm2, whatever shape that suits for the main 4 points, rears 60cm2 each. Smile

They're bigger than they look, I measured 'em to be sure.

remove roof, throw in tin of paint, rotate car on a rollover jig numerous times.

nah i just red oxide primered the welded areas and hammerite matt-black'ed it

it was a completely bare shell when i painted it though, no windows doors etc anything..

hammerite spray is fine unless you want to go down the compressor and gun route. i couldn't be arsed and got an excellent finish with cans doing very light coats. just make sure you treat the welds well and the underneath incase it's f*cked your underseal

i've got the front end of mine in bits as i speak with no wings etc or anything on the front, treating the chassis legs
