Well as of today she is more or less done, all the hard work has payed off and i took it up and down the street where the unit is, it certainly feels quick! Will be waiting for the nicer weather before it comes out to play all the time, will be taking it to a few shows etc (thats if the rear of it doesnt let the front down, that will be this years winter project come october). Thanks for all the comments along the way, most good a few not happy that i messed with a last of the line 1.9 205. Fitted my new wheels today, sorted out a few hoses and cables where they needed to be re routed and generaly tidied her up. Just need to sort out an air filter. A few pictures of her as she stands today- The wheels which i think make the car look stunning- Many thanks to everyone who helped me along the way with tips and hints as to what helped the conversion. Especially my painter for all the help making the bay look as smart as it does. Heres to a nice standard looking toy in the garage next to it brother my rallye. Better call me a whimp too then! My 205 GTi-6 has power steering, in fact both my 205s have it. I thought most late GTis had it as standard! Looks good, does sit a tad high though, get the rear end stripped and finsh her off, then you can adjust the ride high very slightly. ________________________________________ Carl Chambersemail; pugnacious.peugeot@yahoo.co.uk . My GTi was the 14th to last one made according to the chassis number. Mine doesn't have PS either. Personally I prefer the feel of NO PS in a 205. Don't really need it as its so light anyways. Carl, I just have to say that your 205 GTi6 is absolutely stunning and is MILES better looking than my rust box that is a 205. Well done to you on the quality of work and if I win the lottery I'll send mine up to you for the same treatment. ________________________________________ When I got home last night, my G/F demanded that I take her somewhere expensive - so, I took her to a petrol station.1993 L reg 205 with GTi6 engine and GTi6 brakes 1995 M reg FTO GPX manual |

mechanical_repairs wrote: looks like it does the job and i bet it doesnt owe you a fortune like mine Its a long long story mate, but I bet mine does owe me a lot of money, probably the same or more. But to put it quickly - the original install was a lemon. The fitment was poor and the engine died within 500 miles of careful driving. The whole thing had to be towed away to another person a few hundred miles awy, engine taken out, taken to QEP who them rebuilt the entire engine as everything was fcuked (including new water pump, oil pump and loads more). Then put the engine back in and then clear up some of the "lemonness" of the original fit. Then obviously I had to catch a train up and then pick it up. Then it ran fine for a while and developed a problem starting and also a problem running. Starting problem was solved by a change of Cam & crank sensors. The running problem just got worse and eventually it was undriveable. I replaced every single sensor on the engine, the whole throttle body, the whole air induction system, everything. Even got a new battery and swapped out the coil packs. All to no avail. Eventually it turned out the heater wires to the lambda weren't connected - more of the lemonness. It was hard to diagnose as the diagnostics port had been ripped from the loom. It still has more lemonness to fix: 1) Reverse sensor has no wiring in the loom. 2) Mine has the gti6 brakes and suspension. However, the original fitter put a 306 GTi6 hub carrier on one side of the front suspension and a 205 GTi hub carrier on the other. It should have been all 306 suspension. So all in all is was out of action for most of 2008. I've just finished chasing a huge leak in it I found after coming back from my holiday to Egypt. Joy, more expense. When all the above is done, I still need to buy a proper aftermarket ECU as my GTi6 engine has Catcam inlet and exhaust cams in it. It works fine, but it could *really* do with setting up properly on a RR. I also think there might be a problem with the gearbox as sometimes changing gear can be interesting. I also need a new passenger side door as there is a dent in it and I also need various new dashboard panels as they are damaged (from previous owner). Likewise I need some new Speedlines as my SMRs are all kerbed to bits (by previous owner). Despite all this, I love that little car and evenutally over time it wil be made to look good. Its the best car I've driven ever. Ok it still might not be the quickest car I've driven, but its the most fun. ________________________________________ When I got home last night, my G/F demanded that I take her somewhere expensive - so, I took her to a petrol station.1993 L reg 205 with GTi6 engine and GTi6 brakes 1995 M reg FTO GPX manual |
