Amazing what can be done in a garage these days.
Always liked these.

I'll perhaps echo Silver6 one this one. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

quality work kev, I hope you enjoy it on track and haven't broken the bank too badly in the process! I've always been a fan of the 16v rallyes, so it's cool to see it get taken yet another step further! Cool

Cheers Joney.

Bank has been well and truly shafted for many years now... so what's another few grand, eh!? Doh

haha, sounds just like my philosophy! I'm gradually getting out of my debt from student life/movng house, but still managing to max out the bank every month getting stuff for our track car as well Laugh

Kev, you can run cyclones on your brake setup using 3mm shims. 15" ultra leggies also fit without spacing (I'm running an identical setup)

What are you doing with your old engine/KMS/Diff?

Cheers Dave. I'm still debating about the cyclones. You're talking about spacing the caliper off the hub I take it? Even with 5mm wheel spacers they still snag.

All the surplus stuff will be up for sale pretty soon. Already have a few people interested in the KMS and Quaife'd box, plus the 708s will be going into my engine eventually.

Not sure what to do with the rest of the engine - was an incredibly solid unit and still on a low mileage - I might hang onto it for when the inevitable happens...!

Surely you should keep hold of the box too for when 3rd gear strips itself of teeth.

Or is that just 306 boxes that do that....

Anyway, car looks Cool
Cant wait to see it out on track

Nah, normally the MA boxes muller the diff by spinning the crown wheel, or mash the splines on the input shaft, should be fairly solid with a LSD in.

Mines just done both Sad

Excellent Kev, do you know what it weighs? Just wondering how lardy my 1.6 SC 306 will be in comparison (when it's finished). 1600ccsvsc is the way forward!

No, but I'd love to get it weighed.

As Phil said, one of the biggest concerns about the box is it spinning the CW. I believe there've been a number of methods of fitting the CW onto the ATB, and many of them fall apart. Quaife did mine (and did it properly) but I've no idea about the one that's on the car....

Someones been a busy bunny - i'm well jealous having started a 205 one9 to t16 2 years ago without my own dirve or garage, and only got as far as condemning the shell - it had been patched together by the guy that wired your donor (he'd practiced his wiring on this one as well) - top job Thumbs up

fantastic thread. Out of interest, do bucket seats from a saxo fit straight into a 106 gti by using the same fitting holes?

Indeed Pete. Come along to one of the club trackdays and you can fix that! And won't have the stigma of having to ride in a Citroen either!

And yes, the seat fitting holes are exactly the same on the Saxo/106 (pretty much the same shell)

Very good read Kev Thumbs up (Admin, this should definitely be in the "Projects" section! Whistle Wink)

It's never easy, is it? Roll eyes Laugh still it's that sense of satisfaction once it's all done and you stand back and look at what you've got Cool

I'm looking forward to starting mine - as perverse as it sounds, figuring stuff out and solving problems will be part of the fun. (NB - feel free to call me on that when it's 3am I've got 8 bleeding knuckles and it's still in pieces and not working Laugh)

What a brilliant thread. Lovely car, and some ace power. I can imagine the sound is delicious Yes

I wish I had a driveway or somewhere off road to play around and do a project like this.

On a side note has anyone ever SC'd an S1 1.3 Rallye before?

Glad you got there in the end Thumbs up

Looking forward to a passenger ride at Croft [if I make it], failing that I guess I'll see on track at Anglesey Devil Ninja

Should be interesting Laugh

Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh - be interesting to see a conversion developed by someone else - would like to see how they've done things, and how I would have done them etc Smile

Let me know when you are planning to move bits on. I may well be interested in a large amount of your old drive train

Could also do a swap deal with my cams if you'd like, they are PT51s which are similar in profile to 708s but work a bit better bellow 6k so should be better for charged engines. (This maybe complete balls, most internet chat on cams and charging is)

The box in there is a VTR box isn't it? I'd have thought you'd want to use the box from your Rallye for much shorter gearing. That'll still allow you to hit about 150mph, which is enough in a 106!

Cheers Dave, I'll let you know. I do have a few people interested in various bits already.

I'll probably pass on the cams - but let me think about it.

Re the gearbox, I hadn't realised the VTR box was much longer geared (just been discussing the Mr Cheng on the RR). There are things that appeal to me about my existing box, but at the same time the internals of the VTR one have been shot peened so should stand a (slightly) better chance of not dying....

That's cool, let me know.

The VTR box should be tough, but the car did run a standard box before that and it was fine. The MA box is shit, but the main issues seem to be around the bearings on the diff, which is sorted by replacing the diff with the ATB.

Mr Cheng is the man to speek to on this, Mankers has rebuilt more gearboxes than I've had take away dinners.
