Back in march i had a fair amount of engine work done on the 306 ( cams, bodies, management, valve springs etc) can be found here! Clicky.

Now im getting the bottom end of the engine built up to a decent spec which should hopefully be quite successful. I have managed to source a 2.1 xu 406 crankshaft which will be fully balanced. Also 87mm pistons will be fitted which will take the cc to 2187. Obviously the block will be re-bored.

Again Sandy is doing the engine work so should all be spot on. Hopefully by early in jan the work should be done so hoping for some good gains as im told the head on the gti-6 will work well with the increase in cc!

Yea should hopefully show some good gains in torque and bhp, unsure on the amount of torque that will be gained but bhp wise im hoping for between 190-200 at the wheels, dont know if its being a bit too optimistic but i can hope!

Can't wait to see this either, when I last saw it at Castle Combe, it certainly looked rapid and sounded amazing.

2.2 charged would be awesome. Would also be very difficult with the bodies and also cost me a fair bit, would be nice to afford it tho Sad

What model of 406 was this crank from?,
Sounds like it will be a nice engine when done, especially with Sandy on the job, turns out some sweet engines!

Just been looking on Autotrader, was it from one of the TD versions?

Might be a stupid question, but wont the compression ratio be increased due to the longer throw of the crank to gain the extra cc's?

Yes the crank is from a 2.1 td engine that was used in the xantia and also the 406. Got it from ebay for £80 delivered, won the engine complete and got the chap to remove the crank and send it and he kept the rest!

Yes i would have thought cr probably will change as there is a longer stroke on the crank and the block is being rebored for the larger pistons.

Bit of an update!

Sold the KMS ecu, loom etc on ebay last week. Have been looking for DTA for a while and one came up which i won for £380 which i was pretty chuffed with. Main reason for change is that the DTA is far easier to get mapped and setup correctly.

Head is off engine and block removed. Now i believe it is waiting to be sent to be decked and bored.

Bout time i updated this! Its still stripped at the moment. Have had a major problem in that the catcams that were bought and fitted about 10 months ago are knackered. The lobes on the camshafts are worn, especially on the inlet cam and the followers are also worn! To say i was gutted is an understatement!

Obviously pretty shocked by this! However new cams are being ordered, catcams again, possibly with slightly less lift but a little more duration (valve spring permitting).

Hopefully about 2 weeks it should be ready!

Why had they worn so much? Had they removed the oil spray bar to fit them?

Also i assume you bought from QEP, who have also assured me my cams will fit fine, and the spray bar isn't needed Dunno
