Ive just built and had mapped a very similar engine in my 205. Im stuck at 230BHP (I was expecting 250-260) and I think it maybe the std exhaust manifold holding it back. Just wondered what exhaust manifold you were thinking of using???Maxi ________________________________________ 205 GTi6- 250BHP205 GTi6- STD 306 GTi6- Black Phase 3 |

Still using the standard manifold aswell. But with 45mm tb's, hydraulic lifters im not going to expect too much more than 230 bhp. 200lb ft would be nice tho!________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

welshpug! wrote: cool, sounds like Sandy's a busy man what spec did you get in the end? Yep he usually is! Do you mean spec of rods? If so the ones discussed in the other rod thread that is going on at the moment with a 22mm pin. They initially misinformed me that they were 20mm, i questioned it and they re-checked to find them to be 22mm all along. ________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

Edit - Just read the above post. Excellent news. I'll be going for a set of them then! ________________________________________ Hit the limiter in 6th gear at 169mph (GPS - TomTom on the German autobahn). Still pulling like a train too. Have had a few more delays which now are hopefully all sorted. Main problem has been eliminating the float on the big end as the 92mm XU crank has 26mm width i believe where as the vast majority of XU conrods have a width on the big end of 24 mm. So having forked out on the forged rods of 24 mm width we opted to go for the 88mm steel crank which will make things more straight forward as the width is 24mm!Have lost a small amount of cc from this though (2093 cc rather than 2188cc) however it seems the best way to get things back on the road more quickly and without spending too much more! Anyway the block is now built and the head is being finished off at the moment so hopefully engine will be going back in this coming week if all goes to plan, finger crossed! A few piccys of things built up. ________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

finally got round to reading this, looks a great project, cant wait to see the resultsconcerned with the premature wear on the catcams though, how long were they run for and are they made from quality billet steel? i have a set of pt81s to fit and i think its more likely my followers will wear first before the cams do ________________________________________ *R.I.P Pete Sims* |

Hmm, unsure to be honest, had it 1st build with the itb's, cams and management etc march 07 and that must have cost just over 2.5k. Now with the bottom end build, another set of cams and a change of management to DTA its easily another 2-2.5k i expect. The cams from catcams are i believe chilled cast iron build, the followers had worn out aswell! ________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

Small update!Car would have been mapped and finished on friday but unfortunatly things havent gone to plan. Spoke to Sandy friday morning, all was well. A few adjustments were being made and then in the afternoon if all went well the car was going to be driven to the rolling road. On the way to the rollers unfortunatly the car lost compression on cylinder number two. Got a phone call from Sandy explaining what had happened and that the head would have to be removed to see what had gone wrong. Upon removal of the head he found that one of the valve springs (bought at quite a cost from Catcams ) had snapped. The springs had only been bought from Catcams only 18 months ago, had only had about 9 months use and covered approx 5k miles! In fairness this came as a bit of a relief as things could have been worse and Sandy was worried something that he had done may have gone wrong. I never really thought this could be the case as he never puts a foot wrong! He was also releived if a little dissapointed at the quality of the springs that had been supplied. Now have a set of double springs being made / supplied by John Reed which should take a week to ten days to come. Maybe in 3 weeks it'll be there!! So close!! ________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

Good and bad news then Can Cat Cams be held responsible for anything? I would be proper cheesed off with one failing after only 5k miles ________________________________________ Just Drive It |

Results!!!Rolling roaded today. Peaked at 226 bhp at the fly. And a good spread of torque that is about 176 lb ft at its peak. See graph! Im pleased with the results and apparently it drives really well. ________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

the torque and power figures seem a bit low for a 2.2 engine |

Read through, we ended up using a 88mm crank so lost 4mm stroke than we had planned. Now 2.1.________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

226bhp from cams, throttle bodies and a 2.1 bottom end, sounds a very healthy gain there mate do you find that it is still willing to rev as freely?mines at 214bhp at the moment with pt81 cams and a btcc inlet and the difference in responsiveness is staggering at the higher rev ranges, never imagined it would ever be this good the driveability low down is no different either ________________________________________ *R.I.P Pete Sims* |
